Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Ruiz.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Hi! I’m Krystal, a portrait and wedding photographer based out of Austin, TX but raised in Houston. I grew up constantly on the road with my parents and have always had a major travel and adventure itch that I try to keep fulfilled on every day I’m not working. I’ve been pursuing photography for the past 10 years and ventured into many different avenues of the photography world before I fell in love with portraits and weddings.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a photographer drawn to the dramatic and emotive ways in which we connect with each other and our surroundings. A session with me is wholly focused on taking the time to slow down and really appreciate long embraces, the art of discovery, subtleties of affection, and making time to say the words we don’t always stop to say. It is my desire to create photographs that do more than serve as proof that you existed, I want to show that you lived passionately and loved madly.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Network and Collaborate! I feel like the photography community is so diverse that it’s more of a collaboration vs. competition mindset. The more you network and find your “tribe” the more it shows through your work. I’ve learned so much from other photographers and creatives in the area over the last few years.
