Meet Kye Bakrin of southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kye Bakrin

Kye, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started making music at 20 yrs old after moving out my parents crib. All I ever wanted was my own space to do me so after I found a spot I got to work. I’m not really the type to seek external validation not even from loved ones, so as soon as I knew who I wanted to be I became him. It wasn’t an easy start and struggle was around every corner, but so was god. Half the time I don’t even know what I’m doing, nobody does. Just follow the heart.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggle is essential for me. Most people fear it so much that it dictates every aspect of their life. I couldn’t let that be me so I choose to embrace it. I don’t feel that burden because I make a conscious choice everyday to count my blessings and live through them. Our so called ‘struggles’ are some people’s dreams. With that in mind I must remain humble even with my obstacles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work creatively on 2 crafts, my music and clothes. I’m so obsessed with vintage to the point that it spills into my work. My proudest project would have to be my ep G-Luv mainly because it feels true to self. I try not to compete with others but instead strive to create my own lane.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know my name Kye stands for “Kill Your Ego”
