Meet Kyle Hoisington of WesleyRoss Lawn+Landscape in Sugar Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Hoisington.

Kyle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My past few jobs were for small businesses, and I just never saw myself growing with any of those companies. After deciding to take another shot at college, I started working landscaping jobs part time since I could set my own hours. What started off as just small jobs for friends and family, word of mouth got around and I began growing a client base much quicker than I ever anticipated. As a kid, I always had a niche for working projects in the yard. My passion for landscape grew as I began taking on more and more work. With what little knowledge I had of how small business works, I quickly found that my true passion was building own landscape company from scratch, and ditched the idea of going back to school.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Does the “smooth road” really exist? If so, feel free to share the location with me. Everything has been a non-stop learning experience… about what to do and what not to do. I’ve learned ALOT of the what-not-do. Staying on schedule, keeping client commitments, not going over budget. A tough obstacle would be handling the business side plus working in the field. I’ve learned to juggle, that’s for sure. The Biggest struggle has been balancing time between building a business and spending time with family. I recently became a father just a few months before deciding to start this company. Some people call their business their “baby”. So I guess I have two babies (and a 4 year old). Finding time to nurture both has been the ultimate struggle.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about WesleyRoss Lawn+Landscape – what should we know?
I started off taking whatever job I could get, even if I had never done it before. A lot of late nights studying YouTube videos. I explored a lot of different outdoor jobs. Anything from renovating an overgrown flower bed to building fences to trimming trees. I enjoy planting and watching my hard work come to life. I believe that building a relationship with my clients on a more personal level is what sets me apart from everyone else. Good communication and customer service has been my secret weapon.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity, fortitude, and a lot of elbow grease are part of the foundation of not only myself, but of the company. I strive to provide a quality service for a reasonable price. I do my best to accommodate my client’s needs as far as wants and budget.

Where do you see business in 5-10 years?
I have long term goals of creating a company that competes with the best, but that’s not my biggest aspiration. Honestly, my dream is to build a business that allows me to support my family, and provide my kids an outlet to learn about good work ethic in hopes that they may one day take over or create something of their own. Anything else that comes along the way is just an added bonus.
