Thanks for sharing your story with us Lakendra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2017, I took a risk, by quitting my full-time job as a child abuse investigator in Florida and moved to The Woodlands, TX. After moving to Texas, I started to focus on natural products and how to introduce pure ingredients into my everyday beauty routine. I started by substituting normal over the counter products with more natural alternatives. This eventually led to me creating my own personal brand of body butter.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to building my brand and line of personal care items has not been an easy one. The struggles along the way included time management and life balance. Everything that you see associated with my brand is done by me alone, from handmaking the product, designing the website, researching products, financing, social media content, labels, everything is literally carried out by me. That has been the toughest part, not having a team.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aura D’or story. Tell us more about the business.
Aura D’or is a personal care line dedicated to supporting a healthier lifestyle by limiting harmful ingredients in everyday personal care items. We set out to use a higher percentage of natural ingredients in all our products. Aura D’or aims to encourage you to dwell in joy while using products that take your overall well-being into consideration.
Aura D’or literally translates to Golden Aura, it represents positive/optimistic energy, symbolic meaning, faith, and self-care. It is believed that an aura of gold or gold displayed in an aura, “indicates a person is in the process of higher spiritual development and is coming to their true personal power, essence, or being, without the constraints of the ego.” For me, it’s a reminder of our personal journey in developing the mind, body, and soul into its full potential!
As a company, I’m most proud of the ability to introduce our customers to products that take their overall well being into consideration. What sets Aura D’or apart from other companies is the introduction to a higher percentage of natural ingredients and lowering the exposure of toxicity.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I would like to introduce more products, provide more general information about self-care, giving back to the community/extensive community service, and create jobs. I’m really looking forward to seeing where each small step takes Aura D’or.
