Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKisha Mosley.
Hi LaKisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I never intended to become an entrepreneur. I had a great time planning my 5-year wedding renewal. From getting laid off to deciding to start an event planning company, the journey has been amazing. I decided to start my own company as a side hustle until I found something else, but once I started, it just took off. I never intended for it grow this way, but it did. I started my business in July of 2012 and booked 3 bridal clients that year. By the end of 2012, I had 5 bridal clients for the next year. I didn’t want to exclusively do weddings, but I was great at it. I had a way of creating the best experiences on a budget for my clients. Eventually, I started doing more social events like galas, conferences, and multi-day workshops. I left weddings alone.
When Covid hit, my business pivoted again, and I transitioned into the online space. I became known for creating high engaging and profitable online events for my clients. Now, I have transitioned into a coaching and consulting role for those looking to create engaging experiences for their audiences.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a smooth road. I have struggled with having the wrong staff members, having horrible clients, and not having the right processes in place. There were times when I literally was living client paycheck to client paycheck. I’ve struggled with mental illness and not knowing if I would recover enough to continue my business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The LM Experience is an event consulting firm that helps high-end coaches, and course creators sell out their programs by producing immersive in-person and online events that increase visibility, create inclusive communities, and yield profits. What sets us apart is the ability to create amazing experiences that are high in engagement and create memories for our clients for years to come.
I am most proud of being a black woman-owned firm that has been in business for 11 years.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I actually have degrees in criminal justice and hr. management. It was never my intention to become an entrepreneur. I struggle with persistent depressive disorder and advocate for other minority woman business owners who struggle with mental illness as well.
