Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Lauren Collins.
Dr. Collins, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m born and raised in Houston and have been a dancer for most of my life, which is what got me into studying movement and the body in undergrad. I knew I didn’t want to dance professionally, so I started searching for a path that would allow me to help people perform their best and take care of their bodies. (Initially I thought that path would be physical therapy). My first experience with chiropractic was actually following the recommendation of one of my dance instructors at The University of Texas, I was having some issues so she referred me to her chiropractor in Austin. That experience and interning in a multidisciplinary office that had a chiropractor on staff really sparked my interest and eventually lead to me going to chiropractic school immediately following undergrad. When I toured my chiropractic school Parker University in Dallas I had that gut feeling it was where I was supposed to be, and I just went for it. It wasn’t until after I started that I discovered and fell in love with the chiropractic philosophy which is based on the premise that the body has an innate wisdom that allows it to heal and regulate itself.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it definitely has not been a smooth road! My greatest challenge has just been learning the ins and outs of running a business. I jumped in head first just full of passion with no idea how hard being an entrepreneur truly is. I learn something new every day! Hearing success stories from my practice members really fuels me and reconnects me to my “why”.
Innate Potential Chiropractic – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a family wellness chiropractic practice. Our focus is on keeping the spine and nervous system functioning at its best, which in turn supports total body function and wellness. Our nervous systems are like the communication highways between our brain, body, and environment. When that system becomes over stressed or injured, it diminishes our ability to function at a high level. The adjustment restores normal spinal function and strengthens the part of the nervous system responsible for healing and restoration.
We specialize in prenatal and pediatric care. I am a trained doula and have taken and extensive amount of post graduate training to really hone in on the knowledge and skills necessary to take great care of pregnant women and kids. (I haven’t stopped, I still train regularly!) Just like us, children experience stressors (birth trauma, falls, getting sick) and their bodies need the support for optimal development. The things that set our office apart are my expertise with pregnancy/pediatrics, our commitment to personalizing the care you receive, and our focus on health promotion versus symptom treatment. I don’t think of chiropractic as a therapy, but rather a lifestyle of taking good care of your body on a regular basis so it can function the way it was designed to. When this happens it makes a huge impact on your overall quality of life.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Every time someone refers to us or shares their testimonial on how receiving chiropractic care impacted their life I feel really proud of what I’ve created in those moments.
