Meet Lauren Kemps-Thibodeaux of LKT Law Office

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Kemps-Thibodeaux.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’m Lauren Kemps-Thibodeaux, an attorney, certified mediator, and entrepreneur. Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve had a heart for entrepreneurship. I remember vividly making crafts and goodies to sell to my family as I set up my toy cash register. During college, I went on to start a baking business as a side hustle. After law school, my mother and I ventured out to start an online boutique. Entrepreneurship is just a part of who I am.

For my undergraduate education, I attended Sam Houston State University. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science. Through tenacity, dedication, determination, and diligence, I graduated with Cum Laude honors and received my Juris Doctorate from the illustrious Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law. While there, I completed mediation training and became a Certified Civil Mediator. I then went on to conquer the Texas Bar Exam and became a licensed attorney in the state of Texas.

Upon achieving my childhood dream of becoming an attorney, and seeing a lack of awareness in my community when it came to legally protecting businesses and brands, I set out to help my fellow entrepreneurs. That is where LKT Law Office® was born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
According to the American Bar Association, only 5% of all lawyers are African American. So graduating from law school, passing the Texas Bar Exam, and becoming a licensed attorney was a major accomplishment for me as an African American woman. All the hard work, dedication, and “proving myself” truly paid off.

After becoming licensed in the midst of a pandemic, I stepped out on faith and started LKT Law Office®. Having a solo law practice requires you to consecutively and consistently “wear all of the hats” from receptionist, assistant, paralegal, marketing manager, bookkeeper, and most importantly attorney. This presented its own challenges. Yet, I overcame them and learned to delegate, because as an entrepreneur and service provider I can’t pour from an empty cup.

Needless to say, the journey has not been smooth, but I don’t know that I would’ve wanted it to be. I have grown so much and proved to myself that I’m capable of great things when I put my mind to it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about LKT Law Office®?
As a fellow entrepreneur, I know what it’s like to put your blood, sweat, and tears into something. I strive to help other entrepreneurs, creators, and business owners protect what they’ve worked so hard to create – their dreams and legacies.

LKT Law Office® is a client-driven law firm dedicated to helping entrepreneurs develop, maintain, and protect their businesses and brands. I help clients nationwide obtain ownership of their brands via Trademark law. I also help clients in Texas form business entities (i.e. Limited Liability Companies, Corporations, Non-profits, etc.), draft custom-tailored contracts, and review business contracts.

I absolutely love what I do! I’m proud to say that LKT Law Office® has assisted numerous entrepreneurs in their efforts to legally protect their businesses and brands. My goal is to continue to educate and assist those in need of my services.

How do you define success?
From an early age, my parents instilled in me that success isn’t about monetary gain, material attainments, or status. It is about the fulfillment you receive by putting good into the world.

Therefore, I define success as doing meaningful work and helping as many people as I can along that journey. If I can reach people and have the opportunity to make their lives better than they were before we met, then I’d consider myself a successful woman.
