Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Parker.
Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating, I moved to Texas and started freelancing any chance I could. A spark was ignited when I met my business partner, Lorena Molano, in 2013 and LoLa Beauty was started! We did 110 weddings in our first year of business and last year, our 5th year in business, we did 500 weddings. In July of last year, we opened up a second branch of LoLa Beauty in Denver, Colorado. Our team has grown to 30+ stylists and we are looking forward to our biggest year yet!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been the most difficult and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. It started with just a passion for doing hair and makeup, but then I had to learn how to be a business owner and boss along the way. We have never been afraid to take risks in order to move forward and grow. One of the biggest struggles we have encountered is doing everything ourselves. We are truly a small business, only funded by the $100 we each put into our bank account the day we started. That is something we are very proud of, but also one of the hardest parts about owning a business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LoLa Beauty story. Tell us more about it.
We are an on-location wedding hair and makeup company servicing brides and their bridal parties/family in Texas, Colorado, and beyond. We are known for giving our brides the perfect “natural glam” look and for excellent service. We have the biggest team in Austin and are capable of doing very large wedding parties. Our biggest one so far was a wedding with 26 hairs and 26 makeups!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think we have gotten really lucky in finding our artists. Some of our best artists have been found by chance. One of our leads was actually a LoLa Bride herself!
