Meet Layla Moody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Layla Moody.

Layla Moody

Hi Layla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you for reaching out! I have been an artist since childhood. I attended The Art Institute of Houston for Visual Communications and Photography in the late 90’s. I continued on to get a degree in Business and Marketing Management, then went on to get a degree in Interior Design. My plans for a creative career changed when my husband began an IT and web development firm, after a decade of working in the oil & gas industry. Together, we began ArtisticMedia. In 2020, the Covid Pandemic changed everything for our company that we had been operating for nearly 15 years. To ease my uncertainty of the future, I began to play with paint after 20 years of creativity laying dormant. I started experimenting with various mediums and using color therapy to ease my anxiety. I started posting my art on my private Facebook page just to see what reactions I would get, since most of my contacts are people I’ve known for most of my life. To my surprise, the feedback was very positive. Friends wanted me to do commissioned pieces for them. This brought up my confidence and inspired me to develop my website to begin to sell to the public. Before I knew it, I was invited to do magazines and galleries. I am still growing my art business, and it feels very positive. It has definitely helped with my mental health as well. I’d rather be painting than doing anything else in the business realm. Although, I do use my experience in business and marketing daily, when promoting my artwork.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There is no such thing as a smooth road in any business, and I would add, ESPECIALLY in a creative business. There are many learning curves. I still struggle to choose what my next moves will be. I have a lot that I juggle, so I don’t get the time to just focus on painting. I have to be strategic. I have multiple projects going on at the same time, so I currently am focusing on my social media following and art shows. That is what I am focusing on for the next few months. Then, when other projects slow down, I will reevaluate what I need to focus on next. I am quite busy and sometimes have to remember to slow down. I want this venture to be enjoyable, not pressured or forced.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are still operating ArtisticMedia, a web development & IT firm that develops custom software and internal and external marketing campaigns, for corporations as well as small businesses. We are known for exceptional customer service, as well as exceptional problem-solving skills. We create custom software databases and websites, to assist with client functionality & productivity, mainly used by corporations in the energy sector. However, we are currently focused on broadening our reach to other industries. We go above and beyond for our clients.

As an artist, I am known for my strong use of color, high-quality materials, & light and airy paintings in alcohol, ink, acrylics,  & resin.

Any big plans?
I am just going with the flow. As an intuitive person, I have a lot of faith that I will be guided to the direction I am supposed to go. As long as doors open, I will continue to walk through them. I feel like I am on an adventure. Who knows where I will end up? As long as I am still enjoying it, I won’t stop:)
