Meet Leela Roy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leela Roy.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up art always played a big role in my life. I first started off pursuing my dream of music, through music I was able to communicate my innermost thoughts and feelings and deliver them to the world in a way that was relatable. As I grew as an Artist, I started to develop my own style and taste in Fashion, this led to the startup of my company NarLee Custom Designs. Through NarLee I hope to inspire, encourage and challenge other’s to pursue their dreams no matter what that might be. I believe art is the most sincere form of communication. Through this platform, my goal is to help others achieve their dreams as well. Recently, I started my NarLee High School Model Rep Program, in which I help local aspiring models build a portfolio to kick start their careers. Later on this year I hope to add community service opportunities for my Reps so that we can contribute to our community in a positive way!

Please tell us about your art.
My art is very personal whether I’m writing music or designing apparel! My message to all people is that it’s never too late to pursue a dream. My mom always told me “as long as you have life, it’s never too late to change things around!” I cling to this, especially in this industry. I’ve been told many times that I’m too old to pursue this dream and that I’ll never make it. I believe those people are wrong. I know I can achieve anything I put my mind too, it may not come easy but with hard work and persistence I know I can accomplish my goals.

I hope anyone who looks at my art feels inspired to follow their dreams too. I believe life is too short to do something you don’t love! I want to encourage other’s to push past the negative comments, negative self-talk, and lies that they are not good enough! My goal is when people hear my music or wear my apparel that they feel invincible!

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
It’s sad to see the art industry develop a stereotype towards who is most likely to succeed. I believe this makes it incredibly hard for so many talented individuals to breakthrough. Art was never meant to be cookie-cutter, inside the box kind of work, but rather unique and expressive. I don’t think age, size, gender, looks, and whatever else should determine someones’ success but rather the quality of their art and it’s ability to touch the lives of others.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I would love for you to check out my work and share it!
