Today we’d like to introduce you to Leo Phoenix.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Lucy’s Dream story began in 1989 while in college as an acrylic painting created for an art auction. The piece was named Lucy’s Dream due to its Daliesque and Dr. Seuss quality. A surreal landscape that included a flying multi-colored scale fish named Lucy. It was received well and was sold for $30.00. Tried to buy it back from the collector a year later but refused to sell it due to being his daughters favorite hanging in her room. In 1995, I experimented with cutting colored paper and redoing the original piece as I remembered. I created two 30×40 pieces and put them in the garage for the next 20 years as art took a backseat to life and work. In 2014, I revisited the idea of becoming an artist. I didn’t know what my direction would be. At the time, I was still looking for that signature look. I was looking too hard. I had found it 20 years early cutting paper with an exact blade and fabric glue. One thing let to another as I rented a small STUDIO and began the road back. Since I’ve written five Lucy Dream stories and have two books out. I have also begun a Comic book series named SCIFA Secret Center of Invention Future Advancement. All illustrated out of paper as Lucy’s Dream series. Since I’ve visited and shown in Los Angeles, I was lucky enough to capture Stan Lee’s Kid Universe peoples attention and was invited back to Los Angeles for a meeting with 1821 Media. I’ve spoken with many in the industry such as Lee Supercinsky of Futureama, Tod McFarlane and so on. I’m in the marketing phase and hope to continue the momentum.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggle has been that I put it off for 20 years. Looking back, maybe I wasn’t mature or evolved enough at the time to tackle something so enormous. I’ll never know. But I’m in a good spot now with excellent feedback everywhere I show.
Please tell us about STUDIO B.
It’s being asked where your team that created all this. I look around and says I am the team. Everything I do is on my terms, I will succeed, it will be because of me. If I fail, I won’t have anyone but myself to blame.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Maybe, start sooner. But yet again, that’s Monday morning quarterbacking. All things happen for a reason, as the old saying goes.
