Meet Linda Tran of Inkling Designs in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Tran.

Linda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My business journey started when I was engaged and planning my own wedding last year. I was looking for custom decorations online and I wanted these beautiful wedding signs from Etsy but unfortunately, I couldn’t afford them. A good friend of mine suggested that I make them myself, but I was very hesitant and had no idea how to accomplish it. I always had a passion for design and being creative but never thought I could make anything for a wedding, let alone my own! After long days of research and many test trials, I was able to create all my wedding signs and I ended up falling in loving with the entire process. As people started to notice my work, more referrals started to blossom and the rest was history. In October of 2018, Inkling Designs was born, and I haven’t stopped ever since!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This experience has been the opposite of smooth sailing for sure. I think the biggest challenges have been balancing my personal life with my business and maintaining my brand on social media. I am constantly thinking about how I can improve myself, making sure clients are happy, or researching ideas so that my skills are still sharp. Every day, it can become overwhelming, but I think the best way to overcome it is surrounding yourself with supportive people in your life. I have friends and family that are in the creative community so having that group of people that you can collaborate with is a blessing!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Inkling Designs – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in custom signage for special events. I think what makes me stand out is that I enjoy incorporating the client’s style with my modern aesthetic. Clients enjoy seeing something that represents them or showcases their special day, so I love being able to highlight that. I think what I am most proud of is that I started this journey with zero experience in running a business and worked very hard to get to where I am today. I still have a long way to go and a lot more to learn but being able to build something from the ground up is something to be proud of. I strive to make sure my clients have a good experience, be open and honest, and just have fun!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to continue my journey and be able to pursue more artistic opportunities! I am still in the beginning stages of my business and I am hoping to continue to design more custom signage for clients across Houston.I do have plans to branch out into more custom items and evolve into a wedding/event decor business, but one day at a time. The sky is the limit!
