Meet Lindsay Williamson of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Williamson.

Hi Lindsay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the northeast in a quaint town surrounded by beautiful farmlands, rolling hills, crunchy leaves in the fall and sparkling snow in the winter. The beauty that surrounded me drew me to our Creator and a deep love for his creation. My first introduction to watercolor was through simply painting what I saw around me. Painting people (at the time) seemed daunting to me, but trees, rivers, and mountains I could do. I had a quirky but encouraging art teacher in high school that challenged me and gave me confidence as an artist. As I spent time learning the specific art of watercolor, I started practicing people more and more and grew to love painting them and drawing out the features that made each person unique. Capturing a memory for someone is something I have grown to cherish.

I studied Interior Design in college, where I met my now husband. We have two beautiful daughters and being their mom is absolutely the best job in the world. During naptime I paint custom watercolor art of people, pets, landscapes, homes, or whatever anyone wants! I began Lindsay Williamson Art 9 months ago in October of 2025 and I’m excited to see where it will go!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Pets have been an interesting challenge. I’ve had to watch a number of YouTube tutorials on things like “how to paint a white cat on white watercolor paper”. But they have also become one of my favorite things to paint. It is so fun to bring out the unique features that sometimes only their owner will know and love. Another challenge would definetely be scanning and printing. In an ideal world, all of the products I sell to people would be hand-painted by me, but I am only one person (and, like I said, only can paint at naptime), so I have started to create prints of my work. It has been difficult to figure out how to scan and print the paintings so that the colors and the unique watercolor style come out in each print. I am a perfectionist when it comes to things like this. I have spent hours at a local art store Splintercraft going over scans and printing high quality prints, trying things this way and that. I am thankful for small businesses like that one who care to get things right as much as I do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a custom watercolor portrait artist. I paint people, pets, homes, landscapes, florals…you name it, I’ll paint it! As far as customs go, I probably enjoy painting pets (dogs specifically) most. I think what sets me apart from others is my unique style. It’s something I didn’t curate or intend, but has come out in my work anyway. That has been really cool to see. It is very humbling to think someone would display my art in their home.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have at least 5 new ideas a day of directions my business could go and things I want to do. I am currently branching out and attempting to write and illustrate a children’s book. Maybe if I put it in writing and get it published in this magazine- it’ll actually come to fruition! Anything out of the box seems like a risk. But it is also what makes life fun.
