Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Jane.
Lindsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I have always had an eye for photography. It wasn’t until my son was born in 2013 that I started getting creative behind the camera. I had an old hand-me-down camera given to me as a “birth present” and I snapped my days away of nothing but my little boy. Sometime in 2017, I mentioned to my husband how great it would be to have a decent camera to collect family memories with. So what does he buy me for the following Christmas Day? A brand new starter camera! The funny part is, it actually sat in my closet for an entire year until I decided to pick it up and bring it with us on a family vacation.
Once we returned home, I was so amazed at the pictures I took that I decided to take a leap of faith and ask my best girlfriend and her daughter to model for me one evening. I had so much positive feedback that I decided to ask another girlfriend and her daughter to model for me as well. And that’s when it took off! I had multiple people messaging me to take their “mommy and me” photos and there I was, just sitting wide-eyed and clueless to what would happen next. In January 2019, I had created a name for my passion and made it a new venture in my life all the while sailing through the up’s and downs of nursing school.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it has been one of my best years. I have learned so much, meet so many amazing families and other photographers willing to lend a helping hand in this scary process of transformation.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
Dainty Jane Photography was officially created on December 15th, 2018 and I landed my first gig on December 22, 2018! I specialize in family/children, along with maternity & engagements/weddings. As an artist, I’m extremely passionate about capturing raw emotion that you can feel in each image, finding beauty in the imperfections, and paying attention to small details. I love capturing the real moments, not just the poses that look good. That alone sets me apart from many photographers.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As of right now, my main goal is to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in nursing, while I continue to pursue my passions as a photographer on the side. I hope to meet so many new people along the way of this crazy, busy life I’ve created for myself.
