Meet Lisa Mendoza of Oohlalabrowsbylisa in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Mendoza.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a mother of three little girls. It’s hard when you’re a single mother trying to juggle a mommy life and work. As well as keep your hobby in the process to keep sane. I can honestly say I have been blessed with artistic abilities and I’ve managed to find the perfect job to let my creativity flow!

I mix auto color at my primary job. One day at work, I was thinking to myself about what I needed to do to make more income. No lie, it was like God was listening to my thoughts because seconds later I hopped on my phone and saw an ad for Microblading. I saw that as a sign and ran with it! I went to training, got certified and have been getting clientele ever since I made that move.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Man. I’m so blessed. Microblading is so natural to me. I get excited every time I have a new client. The artist in me sees a canvas and wants perfect symmetry in brows. So yes, so far, the road is very smooth but I’m not stopping here. I actually have another training coming up for ombré brows and combination brows. Investing in myself and perfecting my craft is the only thing on my mind right now!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Oohlalabrowsbylisa – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
So about my name… my boyfriend and I were sitting on the couch brainstorming on something catchy. I couldn’t come up with anything! So then, my boyfriend blurted out “oohlalabrows.” It was the perfect name because my nickname is Lala and my daughters’ name all have the word “La” in them so I’m like “YESSS THAT’S IT!”
So, for now, I offer microblading, lash lifts, makeup, and special effects make up services. For those who don’t know, microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo. Instead of going deep into your skin like a regular tattoo, I only scratch the first layer of your skin with a blade that holds pigment that suits best for your brows. Everyone’s brows are different so I make sure I take good measurements that suit their brows based on their facial features.
I do make up for events. I also do special effects make up for Halloween and when I have some free time, I like to use my wood burning tool.

I’m known for all the creative things I put my hands on. I’ve loved art since the fourth grade. It’s my passion. It’s my life. I don’t know what I’d do without it. So, I like to think that’s what sets me apart from others because I don’t see my business as a job or work. I put my all into everything I do and I feel like my work speaks for itself. I’m most proud of taking a step and actually finding something that I love doing. I want to show my daughters that it’s okay to do what you love and love what you do!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are playing out as we speak. This weekend after my training course, I’m going to get my certification in ombré brows and combination brows. I want to excel in that. After that, I plan on getting other certifications under my belt. Learning new techniques. Coming up with my own techniques. Owning my own shop one day and teaching others my techniques. The list goes on! One thing at a time and I’ll get there.
