Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisseth Cervantes.
Lisseth, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was working as a Dental Assistant for ten years, working long hours Monday-Friday. I enjoyed my job, but when I became A mother in 2016 to a wonderful little boy it became harder. As time went by and my business kept growing, I felt I was missing out on all the special moments a mother wants to be part of. I always had an interest in the beauty industry so in 2009, I joined a cosmetology school but kept working as a dental assistant. Deep down, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the beauty industry but didn’t know quite what path to take. One day after getting my lashes done, I became super interested in the process so decided to do my research and found a semester course in San Jacinto college to obtain my license.
I had no idea on how I was going to juggle both school and work, I knew it will be a challenge ahead of me, but took it head-on, working from 8am – 4:30pm Monday-Friday and school from 5pm -10pm was not an easy task. It’s like I tell everyone nothing comes without any sacrifice. Thanks to my husband and family supporting me all the way through, I was able to complete the course.
After completing my school, I started building my clientele working from home “my own lash studio”. Once I realized I had more clients than I could handle, I decided it was time to quit my Dental Assistant job. It was one of the scariest, yet thrilling feeling I’ve ever experienced but I knew it was for the best. I am now a Licensed Lash Artist with 3+yrs of Experience, I currently work in Pasadena, Texas inside (TrendyWendyStudio) and I love it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely not been smooth but nothing really ever is. One of my biggest challenges was learning to be better at management, balancing my own full-time business along with being a full-time mom.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lashed Away Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
At Lashed Away Studio, I specialize in custom eyelash extensions, lash lift & tint. My proudest moments are when my customers tell me “Thanks for making look pretty”, Omg I love my lashes” or “I feel better about myself”. Their feedback always makes be proud of what I do. What sets me apart from others is the trust I give people as soon as they arrive. I want my clients to feel welcome, I want them to feel comfortable. They are not just my customers I also like to build friendships with them.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say that I’ve been lucky or not lucky in my life. I believe in hard work and perseverance. There’s always a way to achieving your goals (personal or business), whether it be the front door, back door or a side door.
