Meet Lloyd Richards Jr. of JLR Events and Logistics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lloyd Richards Jr.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lloyd . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
JLR Events and Logistics, LLC is an event and logistics consulting and management company that was built on over 20 years of large scale event experience. JLR is able to serve as a partner to manage or assist in events of all areas and sizes. Whether it is a large scale sporting event, corporate meetings or large social gathering. From the early planning stages all the way through completion, operations and logistics are the key to any successful event running smoothly. JLR can assist every step of the way.

After years in collegiate and NFL event and facility administration, I formed the company in hopes of bringing my experience and skills to larger scale citywide events.

I have been fortunate to work on a variety of mega city sporting events such as multiple Final Fours and Super Bowls.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I was fortunate to land contracts and roles on some of the largest sporting events in the country in a very short period of time. I also was fortunate to work with an employer who managed several large scale events annually and I became a repeat contractor over multiple years.

The unknowns and lack of predictability and certainty are easily the biggest struggles.

As an independent LLC owner you have to not only do excellent work but also your own marketing to drum up business and constantly working on the next thing to keep your calendar filled.

Again I was fortunate to get a quick start and to string different clients and projects together in the early years of my LLC.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JLR Events and Logistics story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is an events consulting and management company. I can work with an ownership entity or its representatives to plan and execute their event. My plan was always to do a variety of events but I have been fortunate to have primarily worked on very large scale citywide mega events such as sporting events and large multi day music festivals.

I am most proud of the fact that my start and ability to secure contracts was strictly from my network and their trust and belief in me and my ability. My very first two contracts were within weeks of me establishing my LLC and both were multi year clients.

What sets me apart from others is there is a very small group of event management companies and contractors that have a background in both collegiate and professional sports as well as the experience to plan and execute mega events. Once you add my non-profit and local organizing committee experiences that small group becomes even more exclusive.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well I would say luck has definitely played a role when it comes to being in the right place or having the right conversation at the right time but hard work prior to being there and/or having the conversation has played an equally important role.

I have always worked hard at my craft and at building genuine and meaningful relationships. Those two elements I would say have created my “luck” when it comes to landing or securing many of my opportunities.
