Meet Lou Mires of Looking Window Pictures

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lou Mires.

Lou, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
There I sat, a five-year-old, in a theater eager to experience Star Wars for the first time like much of the world at that time. It was a cinematic experience that would forever change my view on movies and life.

However, life happened, and for many years I would wander in fear and doubt believing I could never make movies. Deep inside, I knew in my heart all the negativity was an incredulous blockade meant to make me disillusioned with my dreams. The years between here and there were spent in an uphill battle where I would eventually prevail and conquer my fears, doubts, and all that stood in my way.

Four years ago, I ventured out to fulfill my dreams of making movies. I studied filmmaking on my own 12 to 16 hours a day for months, and I worked my way through filmmaking networks and organizations. Soon, I was on film sets and traveling out of state getting my feet wet and meeting prominent people in the industry. Working with amazing people on great movies and video projects, I knew I found home. Still, one thing was lacking. The rest of the story. It’s only begun. Now, I am shifting my energy to storytelling and taking my audiences on the adventures in my mind.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing worthwhile is easy. Although Houston is one of the least expensive places to film, it is not a very conducive environment for a budding filmmaker. The city, as a whole, lacks the maturity, infrastructure, and business prowess for film. However, I believe that location has little to do with the creative and their success. Wes Anderson and Richard Linklater are shining examples of this. It’s only an issue when it comes to marketing. I consider Houston my sandbox with my sights set on a different location for my launching pad.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Looking Window Pictures and Entrance Creative stories. Tell us more about those businesses.
Looking Window Pictures is a production company I started in 2014 as my motion picture company for making the movies I would want to see as an audience member.

Entrance Creative is a recently founded full video production company.  Our team consists of individuals with up to 20 years film experience and over 20 years business experience in both film and a variety of corporate industries such as oil and gas, healthcare, legal, government, and education.

Entrance Creative is set apart by its understanding of people first. We’re in touch with audiences as well as our client needs.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is like magic. It is science unexplained. As a director, writer, and producer, I use magic to dazzle my audiences. So as a filmmaker, yes, it is luck. As an assiduous creative and businessman, I believe in the modern adage “success is where opportunity meets preparedness.” My answer will always depend on whether my audience showed up for a documentary or a magic show.
