Meet Lourdes Becerra of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lourdes Becerra.

Hi Lourdes, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is still being written, but it’s been shaped by creativity, determination, and a desire to make a positive impact. I’m currently a full-time college student, and alongside my studies, I’ve built my fine line tattoo business, itsaLOworld. I’ve always been passionate about art and self-expression. As I developed my skills, tattooing became a way for me to connect with people through meaningful, lasting artwork. Fine line tattooing especially stood out to me because of its simplicity, precision, and ability to tell a story through delicate details. Starting and growing a business while attending college full time has come with its challenges. Balancing classes, studying, and tattoo appointments often means long days and late nights, but those experiences have helped me grow both personally and professionally. They’ve taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of staying committed to what you love. One of the things I’m most proud of through itsaLOworld is finding ways to give back. Every month, I choose a different fund, cause, or organization to support through my tattoo work. Being able to use my art not only to help clients express themselves but also to contribute to something larger than myself has made the journey even more meaningful. It reminds me that creativity can be a tool for connection, support, and positive change. Today, I’m continuing to grow as both a student and an artist. My goal is to keep building itsaLOworld, create meaningful pieces for my clients, and show others that it’s possible to pursue your passions while making a difference in your community. Looking back, every challenge and opportunity has helped shape the person and artist I am today, and I’m excited to see where the journey leads next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing all of the roles I have in my life. I’m a mom, a full-time college student, I work a full-time job, and I’m also growing my fine line tattoo business, itsaLOworld. There are days when it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day, and learning how to manage my time, energy, and responsibilities has been one of the hardest parts of this journey. As a mother, I want to be fully present for my child while also creating a future that I’m proud of. There have been sacrifices, long nights, and moments of self-doubt, but my child has been one of my biggest motivations to keep going. I want to show that it’s possible to chase your goals, work hard, and build something meaningful no matter how busy life gets. Building trust as a tattoo artist has been another challenge. Tattooing is deeply personal, and clients are trusting me with artwork they’ll carry for the rest of their lives. As a young artist, I’ve had to work hard to build credibility, continue improving my skills, and create an experience where clients feel comfortable and confident in my work. I’ve also had to learn the business side of things. Beyond creating tattoos, there’s scheduling, client communication, social media, marketing, and finances. A lot of it has been learning through experience, but every challenge has helped me grow both as an artist and as a business owner. Even though the road hasn’t always been easy, every obstacle has taught me something valuable. What keeps me going is my passion for art, my family, and the impact I can make through itsaLOworld. One of my favorite parts of my business is choosing a different fund or cause to support each month through my tattoo work. Being able to combine creativity, community involvement, and personal growth makes all of the hard work worth it. Looking back, the challenges have made me stronger, more resilient, and even more committed to the life I’m building for myself and my child.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fine-line tattoo artist and the founder of itsaLOworld, where I create detailed, meaningful tattoos that allow people to express their stories, memories, and individuality through art. I specialize in fine-line work because I love how much beauty and meaning can be conveyed through clean, delicate designs. Whether it’s a small sentimental piece or a custom design, my goal is to create tattoos that feel personal and timeless. What I’m most known for is creating a welcoming and comfortable experience for my clients while delivering thoughtful, detail-oriented work. I believe tattoos are more than just artwork; they’re often connected to important moments, loved ones, personal growth, or milestones. What I’m most proud of is building itsaLOworld while also being a full-time college student, working a full-time job, and raising my child. Balancing all of those responsibilities hasn’t been easy, but it has taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of staying committed to your goals.I also make it a priority to give back. Each month, I choose a different fund, cause, or organization to support through my tattoo work. Being able to use my art not only to create meaningful pieces for clients but also to contribute to my community gives my work an even deeper purpose. I think what sets me apart is that my business is built on both creativity and connection. Every tattoo is approached with care, intention, and a genuine appreciation for the trust my clients place in me.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth happens when you’re willing to step outside of your comfort zone. Every role I have taken on, whether as a mother, student, employee, or tattoo artist, has required me to trust myself and take chances before feeling completely ready. As an artist, I’ve learned that every person has a story, and being able to create something meaningful for them is a privilege. That has taught me the importance of listening, building genuine connections, and approaching my work with care and intention. I’ve also learned that success looks different for everyone. For me, success isn’t just about growing a business or reaching milestones. It’s about creating a life that reflects my values, supporting my family, continuing my education, giving back to my community, and doing work that I genuinely love. If there’s one thing I hope others take away from my journey, it’s that progress doesn’t have to be perfect. Small steps, taken consistently and with purpose, can lead to opportunities and growth you never imagined possible.
