Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Mintzas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Luke. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
CrossFit Town Center(CFTC) was founded in June of 2012, centrally located in The Woodlands, Texas. Founder, Luke Mintzas, had spent over a decade in the fitness industry helping countless people to lose weight, tone up, and get in the best shape of their lives. Luke had grown jaded of the practices of “big box” fitness. He built his career and reputation on serving the best interest of his clients, and later, his training staff. He knew there must be something out there that better fit his personal values.
CrossFit was the perfect solution, the model offers a superior product(group functional training) while allowing it’s approved Affiliates the opportunity to create their own community and content with minimal interference. Each box (CrossFit speak for gym) provides a unique experience(good and bad).
So, how is CFTC different from other boxes? We aim to be the friendliest, most approachable box around, period.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The most challenging part has been trying to balance family life and the business. My wife and I had our first child in 2014, and shortly after that, we added three additional suites to the gym.
I had huge expenses from outfitting the new space to go along with triple the lease. My hours available to work are now limited to the times that my wife is not at work.
Fortunately, my family has been a huge help… my Mom helping with our little guy, and my Dad up here working with me 5am – 5pm on Sundays. The gym is constantly in a state of improvement, so there is always a project in the works. Also, I’ve added 2 full time employees to help keep things running smoothly and heading in the right direction.
Please tell us about CrossFit Town Center.
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program consisting of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. The majority of our athletes are “normal people” with limited exercise history. We build them up starting with our Foundations program and can take people as far as they want to go. The toughest part is just coming in those first days. People think that everyone is going to look like what they see on ESPN.
Our coaches are all very friendly, and our members are amazing. We don’t take the competition side of CrossFit too seriously. We want people to do their best and have a great time.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
All the mistakes I’ve made I’ve learned so much from. I really don’t think I would do anything differently.
