Meet Luz Castilla of Houston Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luz Castilla.

Hi Luz, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Music Journal began as a project between me, Luz Castilla, and Leydi Gonzales. We started it with the mission to highlight and uplift our community, especially local artists, musicians, and creatives. What began as a small idea has grown into a platform that brings people together through music, art, and storytelling.

We’ve organized events like *We Are Women*, a networking event celebrating women in creativity, and *Rhythm in Our Roots*, a fundraiser we recently hosted in partnership with FIEL Houston and Echoes to support families affected by ICE.

We also have a recurring show series called *The Entry*, where we showcase local Houston talent artists we genuinely love and believe in. It’s never about streams or popularity for us; it’s always about the art and the authenticity behind it. Our goal is to keep creating spaces where artists feel supported, seen, and free to express themselves fully.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So far, the road has been pretty smooth, and we’re really grateful for that. We’ve received a lot of love and support from our community since the beginning, which has helped us grow and keep things moving. The only challenge we face at times is needing more hands to help we’d love to connect with more people who are interested in volunteering and being part of what we’re building. But overall, the journey has been filled with support, collaboration, and positive energy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets The Music Journal apart is that we’re truly focused on supporting our local artists in real, tangible ways. Our goal is to create events that not only highlight their talent but also help fund their careers and ensure they’re paid fairly for their work. We’re artists ourselves, and everything we do comes from a genuine love for music and creativity. The Music Journal is built by creatives, for creatives a space where art, community, and opportunity come together.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
We define success through community, seeing people come together in one space, supporting and uplifting one another. When our events bring artists, creatives, and neighbors together to celebrate each other’s work and stories, that’s what success looks like to us. It’s about unity, growth, and the love that’s shared through creativity.
