Meet Lyriq Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyriq Hill.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lyriq. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first found a love for music at a young age when I watched the classic movie “Sister Act 2”, That’s when I first heard Lauryn Hill sing and I was instantly intrigued. I remember running around the house for weeks singing “His Eye is On The Sparrow” and all of the lead parts she led in the other musical pieces in the film. Later on, I found my singing voice around the age of 14 and I started experimenting with writing music. I noticed that my way with words seemed to be out of the ordinary and I quickly realized my love for metaphors and storytelling. After joining a few music groups in high school my writing progressed but I always wanted to pursue music on a larger scale but only put forth a hobbyist level of effort. I procrastinated for years until I ran into a group of girls who shared the same passion as I did. We connected and formed as trio known as London Lane. We worked with local Houston Producers and performed at some of the local spots and started to build a name for ourselves, but eventually life happened and we all took on different paths. Today, as a solo artist I have been composing all my own original music and branding myself as a serious artist and a force to be reckoned with. I am excited for what the future holds and I am currently in the studio preparing for the release of my first Ep.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This journey has not been a super smooth road but I feel like nobody’s ever is and if anyone tell you it has been then there is some denial in the midst. I’ve dealt with situations where people have tried to take advantage for financial gain. When I was with the group London Lane, we actually had three individuals who had known and work with each other for years breakup their professional bonds because of greed. They felt like they had found a gem and the only way to get ahead was to step over each other’s toes, but that always lead to disaster.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Singer/Songwriter/Producer classified under Pop/R&B/EDM. I am also a freelance Photographer/Graphic Designer in my spare time with the launch of my brand LHMEDIA early 2019. I am most proud of authenticity as an artist at the end of the day. Many people struggle to find themselves in an industry that is used to building artists from scratch. This meaning finding singers and putting other people’s skills to work behind them, which there is nothing wrong with it because it’s the formula I’ve grown to understand. But I do pride myself in writing all my material and creative an original piece of art.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing if it wasn’t for time passing how could we grow? My writing has progressed tremendously and I actually surprise myself all the time when I write songs and I’m like, “Where did this come from?” but I love the process so I wouldn’t turn back time. I can only make a better future.
