Today we’d like to introduce you to Madhvee Patel.
Madhvee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I wanted to return to work as the kids were getting older. We were moving back to Houston from MN and decided to look for a business that would help my kids in the long run and something that I would learn from.
We started by supplying full service childcare for in home care and also providing customized one on one tutoring in all subjects from Elementary to College both at our Learning Centers and in home. We provided SAT/ ACT test prep and also helped kids apply to colleges.
We then started supplying corporate care for employees that need to be at work but their kids are home due to sickness or holiday. It’s known as backup care. This is a perk offered to employees. This care also extends to all the major hospitals such as Methodist, Herman Memorial, and Texas Children’s.
During Hurricane Harvey we set up emergency care for the medical staff that brought their kids to work and my nannies took care of them whilst the Doctors and Nurses did what they do best. We would normally provide in home care but as a large number of nannies couldn’t get to the different locations it was safer to provide the care in the hospital. It was set up rather rapidly but we made it work. In future we intend to have a plan in place just for such an emergency.
There is still a lot of potential to develop the business apart from the general sitter and tutor service on a regular and ad-hoc basis as well as a the corporate care that we supply.
We are now expanding into event care such as Weddings and also supplying sitters for Churches, Daycares, Company events and parties.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a lot more time consuming that I’d envisaged and I’ve had to learn a lot on the run. It’s definitely been challenging. Making sure the business is constantly growing and marketing it effectively has been interesting.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about College Nannies and Tutors – what should we know?
College nannies and tutors builds stronger families by providing role models from cradle to college! As the most complete full service nanny and tutor company in the US we’re constantly looking for role models to make a difference in the life of a child.
We provide full service childcare to families directly and through corporate care. We also provide nannies for large events. The other area we specialize in is providing customized one on one tutoring for kids from Elementary to college including test prep.
We match each Family with a sitter or tutor specific to their needs. The nannies and tutors are my employees. We don’t just match them and that’s it. We provide a backup nanny or tutor if the regular one is sick or on holiday and therefore a continuity of care.
We are a recognized tutor center for providing tutoring for kids with special needs. For us every child is special so we have many employees with special needs experience.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
It’s important for me to provide the best care whether it be regarding a sitter or a tutor. I expect high standards from my team and they know it. I try to keep in touch with them on a regular basis. We also have regular nanny meetings so that those out in the field feel that they’re all part of a team.
We have a complimentary family meeting with each family unless it’s corporate care. Each Family is unique and their requirements are also.
