Meet Makenzie Miracle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makenzie Miracle.

Makenzie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up as a small-town girl in Grand Junction, Colorado, I dreamed of experiencing the “city life”, life of a “city gal.” I knew that I had dreams and aspirations bigger than my cities population, and that’s just how it started. I got on a train one cold morning in December, to travel to Denver. Thinking that this was my big getaway. My first big girl trip alone, and not a single moment did I realize, I’d get on that Amtrak and never come back. Fast forward a year later, I begin my journey as an aspiring model. Usually, my work was just urban and simple, nothing too extravagant, but good enough for me. I remember feeling solely, gracious like I knew I needed to be doing more.

Roughly about a year after that, I had my beautiful daughter. During those nine months, I stopped modeling, too focused on working and making a baby. About four weeks to a month after having my daughter, I picked up modeling like I knew what I was doing. I remember setting up a shoot with a photographer named Keif Hunniford. Such a talented individual and yes, we created magic every time- I brought my daughter to every session. She was/is my WHY. Once I began to study, practice, and master my body, I started modeling more.

About three months after I started gaining some work and being noticed in Denver, life had something bigger planned and I had to bring my daughter and I to Houston, Texas. Once we got here, it didn’t take long before I was back to work again. Shooting my first boudoir photoshoot with Tiffany Davis. It was amazing and that was when I knew it would take off from there. To this day, I’m still working, still shooting, still doing what sets a fire inside of me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth, not by any means. With being a freelance model, sometimes you would hope photographers see that your time isn’t free. Especially if there’s certain shoots that should require pay because of the level of shoot. There’s photographers who expect to be paid as well, but the difference between being a paid/known photographer to a non-paid/known model is that if a photographer reaches out to a model, that model should be paid. If a model reaches out to a photographer, there should be payment made to the photographer. It’s been hard being a freelance model because I know my worth as an individual and I know I could bring something fresh to the lense. Having that opportunity is rare, it’s out there, but it’s rare. Hopefully, someone will see my worth is more than “exposure” and “aspiration.”

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m known for my artistic ability. Respectfully, I have showcased myself as art through modeling, performing at open mics, and attending art shows in Houston. I believe the one thing I’ve always been great at is, expressing myself on levels I didn’t even realize I could do. I wear my heart on my sleeve, so anything that I love, or have passion about, best believe I’ll let it be known.

One of the things that set me aside from anyone else in this is that art represents individuality. So even if I share the same common interest, love, passion, or hobby as the person next to me, I bring my own creativity and individual love for it.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would definitely listen to my gut and get out more. I’d stop thinking so much into the financial aspect of it and just go for it! If I decided to write a book full of my poems, so be it. If I decided to paint a dozen canvases and sell them off, so be it. If I decided to travel to California to try and model for a popular agency, and they didn’t like that I was 5’3”, then so be it. I would definitely have taken more chances and stopped being scared.
