Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Richardson.
Malcolm, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Katy back when I was 16 and I fell in love with the restaurant industry. I worked for many companies over the year which led me to Grub. I have worked here now for two and a half years and our company is looking stronger than ever and ready to change our industry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have moved over ten times in my life. Going to 3 high schools in 4 years. I found my home in Katy, Texas and knew this is where I wanted to be for the foreseeable future. Grub asked me if I would be willing to move and help manage a location in Shreveport, LA. At the time, I was dealing with my mother fighting breast cancer and the family dealing with the looming threat of losing her. I took the job in hopes that I could move my life forward and I would be able to move back and continue helping take care of her here in Katy. Unfortunately, one morning while I was setting up for a normal day in Shreveport, I receive work that she had passed away. It is bitted sweet now to be home in Katy with a Grub location right across the street from the hospital where we would take her for her doctor’s appointments.
Please tell us about Grub Kitchen + Bar.
Grub is about people first. Then, let’s eat. We’re invested in our customers, our employees, and our neighborhoods… what makes them tick, where they’ve been, and where they’re going. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we’re quite serious about our people and our customers.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing… given the life I have I know even if I was to start over a different set of challenges would arise.
