Today we’d like to introduce you to Manisha Patel.
Manisha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
During my childhood years, I was fortunate enough to travel and reside in many different cities. This allowed me to grow up in communities that were quite diverse from one another in numerous ways, such as economic class and lifestyle. Out of the many variations among these societies, the most significant difference I observed was the quality of education. Early on, I was exposed to the unequal opportunities for development and standards of learning between lower class neighborhoods compared to the more well-off communities. During my undergraduate studies at Lamar University and graduate studies at Rice University, I spent most of my free time as a tutor for students in underprivileged schools. Post-graduation, I achieved my dream job as a process engineer in the oil and gas Industry. However, I knew that I did not want to end my teaching journey just yet, and so I decided to pursue teaching along with my career in engineering.
With a distinct sense of purpose and the ingenuity and experience to achieve my ambitions, I founded Ivy Study – a tutoring company which offers subject tutoring along with ISEE, SAT, and ACT test prep services to the Houston area. At Ivy Study, we offer one-on-one personal tutoring at the client’s home to encourage students to succeed in their academic careers and reach their personal and professional goals. I feel fortunate to have a team of bright tutors who share my passion for teaching and uplifting the leaders of tomorrow. I full-heartedly believe that education is the key to personal and communal success, so being able to work in a field that truly leaves an impact on lives is incredibly fulfilling.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ivy Study strives to provide the top tutors in Houston. Our tutors undergo a rigorous interview and testing process before being hired, along with regular training sessions. As the founder, I made it a priority to provide parents and their children with teachers that are not only excellent tutors but also embrace a natural dedication for teaching and working towards the students’ success. Like any young entrepreneur, I learned a lot along my journey and still have much to learn. No good thing comes easy, and the founding of Ivy Study is a great example of that.
What allows Ivy Study to differ from many other test- prep and subject tutoring services are our incredibly talented tutors, competitive rates, flexible scheduling, and propriety personally made and published ISEE test prep material (including questions and exams for all three levels). Ivy study has been able to accomplish a strong foundation with a great mission statement and we are so passionate about continuing to provide quality education outside of the classroom.

Ivy Study is an educational consultant company with a mission of providing solutions to guarantee the academic and personal success of all students in grades 1 – 12. We offer subject tutoring, college test prep, and ISEE entrance exam prep. The ISEE exam prep service contains our own proprietary published questions and exams, allowing students to get additional practice and strategy learning opportunities not available in traditional tutoring services. Our teachers are not only experienced but hold a deep love for tutoring and impacting their students’ lives. We offer services and packages for a wide range of communities in the Houston area.
As the founder, a personal mission of mine has always been to provide quality education to communities where there is a need for greater standard of teaching and learning. Therefore, our tutors regularly host free volunteering sessions in the low economic communities of the Houston area. Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Some of my favorite memories from childhood consist of all of the memorable teaching moments my parents entrusted on me. My grandfather was a college professor and my father is an engineer, and watching them hold such a passion for their work made all the difference. My parents were absolutely my first and favorite teachers. They not only taught me the fundamentals in school courses such as math and science, but influenced me to always learn, say yes to opportunities, and stay inspired. Now as an engineer and founder of a tutoring start-up, it is fulfilling to see all of their lessons come to life.
