Meet Manuella Tsamo of WorldOfNuella in SouthWest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuella Tsamo.

Manuella, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Since I was a little girl, I was always attracted to everything pretty and sparkly. I loved enhancing things to make it more appealing. I would take my mom’s necklace and add some pieces to it or just take nail polish and add it to my hair, silly right? I was still nine and although I found it beautiful to have nail polish on my hair, my mom didn’t at all. When I was 13 years old, my family and I moved to the United States and that’s when I became interested in makeup. The girls at school were wearing it as they pleased but because I came from a strict and conservative home, my dad couldn’t sit with the fact that I wanted to wear makeup at 13 years old, so I started small. I would wear lip gloss the first month then I would put mascara two months later. I guess it was a way for me to ease my parents into it.

By the time I was 15 years old, I was” beating “my face as they call it. It really just means doing a full face of makeup. I couldn’t do anything extravagant because I was still young so I would try to keep it light with nude colors. By the time I went to college, I was so happy I would be away from my parents and become the queen of makeup. It’s a that stage that I really started experimenting everything. Cut creases, Face paint, Goth make up just anything really. People around me started to realize that I had a gift and they would ask me to do their make up or even help them shop for their make up products. At the same time, everybody wanted to learn from me and I couldn’t keep up with teaching 20 people or more at the time and that’s when I started my YouTube channel. A place where I could be me, where I could show everyone tips and tricks to a flawless makeup and more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As an influencer and professional makeup artist, there has been plenty of challenges along the way. Growth on YouTube is the hardest thing because so many people want to do makeup. The most important thing though for me was to stay true to myself and to be me. I am slowly growing my audience and my client base. As far as being a make up artist, the hardest part would be to fail a client’s expectations. You could have a client that comes to you and says do whatever you want on my face but by the time you are done they hate it. You have to reconsult them to tailor effectively to their needs and that is part of being professional.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My YouTube channel is primarily to teach my subscribers how to apply their make up flawlessly, review new products in order to help them save their money when it comes to bad ones. I also work as a makeup artist for events, photoshoots and more. I specialize in all types of makeup from wedding makeup to body painting. My work speaks for itself because each one of my clients that come in with a vision leave exactly with that if not better. The way I apply makeup to each one of my clients is customized based on their preferences.

What were you like growing up?
When I was younger, I wanted to be a lawyer. I spent most of my childhood watching Law and order morning to night. I know right, I should have been watching cartoons. There is still a chance for me to follow that path. You know what they say: “Never give up on your dreams”. I have always been a leader. I’m loud, sassy but emotional at the same time. I can speak with four accents in the same sentence but I can also get hurt with the simplest words. Younger, I loved horror movies, I still do but no one wants to watch it with me haha.
