Today, we’d like to introduce you to Marcela Garcia.
Hi Marcela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began with a passion for transforming flour, sugar, and creativity into edible works of art. I found (not that long ago) that baking is my best therapy. I can go into the kitchen and lose track of time easily. Baking is such a noble profession; all you need is some basic ingredients to put a smile on your loved ones and maybe even change someone’s day.
I’ve also been genuinely interested in art since I can remember, and to me a good cake can actually make a perfect canvas to let your creativity go wild. I love creating memories for my customers just like I would do with my own.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely NOT! The struggle is real! But in all honesty, I think the major struggle and obstacle I’ve had is myself. Self-doubt, insecurity, perfectionism, meltdowns every other week and that’s just to name a few. I’ve had to learn that everything in life is a process, and not everybody’s processes look the same. Self-comparison in the age of social media can be so hard on you, so to believe that I have all that it takes and let go of all those negative emotions to transform and create something beautiful has definitely been a great challenge. Still learning.
We’ve been impressed with Marcella’s Cakery, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What we do at Marcella’s Cakery is to create memories. We understand that every human has a need to be seen, heard and feel special and recognized. Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
So many people! I’ve had an overwhelming support in this journey I could not mention all in here. But all my Mexican friends who bought cakes from me from the very beginning (and continue to do so), those who have believed in me more than I do sometimes, those who have listened to my meltdowns or encouraged these crazy goals and dreams… know that you all have a special piece of my heart.
But the biggest piece of strength that always comes from Him.
