Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Griffin.
Marcus, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a veteran so we have these places on base where we can rent a bay in the auto facility to repair our own vehicles. A few years out the military I was home and decided to do some work on my vehicle in my driveway. It took longer than expected so my homeowner’s association started sending me letters about violations and fines. I then thought about the hobby shop I had access to in the military and tried to find one here in Houston. There was nothing in existence so I figured why not me. I used my income tax money to buy equipment and rent a run down shop. Three years later we have three locations, a federally registered franchise, and 1 million in sales a year.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a rough road. We are responsible for educating the public on a service they are not familiar with. We are the leader in DIY Community garages so we had to create all of our processes and marketing plan. There was not a company or a blueprint for us to follow. We created the blueprint.

U Do It Auto Repair is an automotive repair facility that’s best known for our DOY services. We allow regular people to rent a bay in our facility to repair their own vehicle using our tools and equipment. It allows them to work safer and more efficient than in their driveway because our equipment and tools make the difference. Our biggest asset is our highly trained technicians that walk customers through their projects all the way to the end. We get people that don’t know how to use tools at all to professionals that do side jobs they can’t do at their place of employment.
I am most proud of our impact in the community. We provide free hands on training classes and host various free fun events. What sets us apart is we are the only automotive facility that allows customers to perform their own repairs. We are on the front line and are considered the leader of DIY Automotive shops.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston is a hard working, diverse city. This is where I grew up. We are trend setters. U Do It Auto Repair is a trend setter in an industry that’s been the same for over 50 years. There is nothing I dislike, traffic I guess.
