Meet Marcus Mohon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Mohon.

Marcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt compelled to express myself through pen and paper. I started scribbling at a young age and still sketch out many of the designs I envision today. I also have an aunt who’s an interior designer in Oklahoma City who I always thought was the absolute coolest (still do, Auntie Mame)! Flash forward a decade, and I had earned a degree in economics from Baylor University and was experiencing a steady longing to return to more creative pursuits. I was selling antiques in Fredericksburg when I met a woman who inspired me to relocate to Austin, Texas. I moved, started studying design at the University of Texas, and the rest, as they say, is history. That extraordinary woman is now my wife (and mother to our four children), and I couldn’t be more thrilled to call Austin home!

Although we are headquartered in Austin, people in Houston regularly call on me to design their most cherished spaces, and the Bayou City has always felt like a second home. Combine that with an ever-growing list of Houston homeowners who share an appreciation for luxury design, and the creative dialogue flowing through this city is a dialogue I’m excited to be a part of!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was working for a design firm in 2001 when the tech bubble burst, and they were forced to let me go. I decided to open my own business on September 1, 2001, ten days before the attack on the World Trade Center. I had a 1-year-old child, had just closed on a new home, and had no clue what the future might hold for Marcus Mohon Interiors. I never saw any of this as a reason to panic; each bump was a problem to be solved, and I quickly got to work pulling the pieces together. Despite it all, it’s easy to see that my firm has been successful because of our incredible clients. Our cherished supporters, and the referrals they send our way, allow us the opportunity to work on the most unbelievable projects. They are the reason I can look back and say, with utmost confidence, that it’s been nothing but smooth sailing!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
A distinctive fluency in architecture defines Marcus Mohon Interiors, a sincere value of personal connection, and a commitment to creating extraordinary living environments. The creative journey is sinuous, and bringing a client’s vision to life requires the ideal partner, an expert who thoughtfully guides them to an exquisite expression of their inherent style, providing support and transparency at every turn. We craft profound interior experiences, ensuring each client’s journey home is both fluent and filled with joy.

On a personal note, I’ve always been concerned with the warmth in which people live more than the look of any particular environment. If you’re working with an interior designer, it’s a given that space should look amazing. My goal is to ensure your home is exquisite while also comforting; a healing cocoon of both beauty and respite.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
The people. The food. The museums and bustling art scene. Honestly, I’m trying to find something I don’t love about Houston! My profession allows me to bring personal stories to life through design, and Houston serves as home to a growing population of people from all over the world. Their unique stories are being steadily woven throughout Houston’s narrative, and I’m thrilled that my expansion allows me to contribute to that process.
