Meet Maria Do Carmo of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Do Carmo

Hi Maria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Absolutely! My story is one of resilience, reinvention, and embracing the unfiltered journey of life.

I was born in Venezuela, and my Latin heritage runs deep. Though I was raised in Canada, I grew up with that unmistakable Latin flare—a strong sense of family, passion, and an unshakable work ethic. No matter where life has taken me, my roots have always been a huge part of who I am. That’s why Texas has always felt like a place I could truly call home. The strong Latin presence there is inspiring because it proves that when given the right opportunities and atmosphere, Latinos don’t just survive—we thrive. We break stigmas, shatter generational cycles, and redefine what success looks like. That’s exactly the kind of energy I want to be surrounded by.

I’m also a wife to my incredible husband and a full-on toddler mom, raising two little ones who keep me on my toes. Motherhood is the most chaotic, challenging, and rewarding role I’ve ever had, and it’s shaped me in ways I never expected. It’s also made me obsessed with finding ways to balance *all* the things—family, business, self-care, and, of course, a little fun.

My journey started in my parents’ business, which focused on medical mobility, aids to daily living, and helping the elderly and those with health disabilities. Growing up in that environment, I learned firsthand the importance of service, compassion, and making a real difference in people’s lives. I saw how independence and dignity meant everything to those we served, and that experience shaped so much of who I am today.

Later, I became a dental hygienist, which allowed me to thrive in an independent role while forming strong, meaningful connections with my clients. I loved creating a space where people felt at ease, where they could trust me, and where I could empower them to take care of their health in a way that felt manageable and approachable. That connection—that ability to impact lives—has always been my driving force.

But I knew I wanted more. More impact, more freedom, and more ways to help people step into their power. That’s when I added on a global health and wellness business, which became a true passion project. Through this business, I empower women to recognize that their physical, emotional, and mental well-being go hand in hand with their success in life and business. True confidence and success don’t just come from *what* we do, but from how we take care of ourselves while doing it.

Today, I’m an entrepreneur, content creator, speaker, and podcast co-host! I created my brand around being bold, unfiltered, and authentic, sharing real-life experiences, humor, and valuable insights on everything from business and wellness to mindset and personal growth. I firmly believe that success isn’t about having it all together—it’s about embracing the chaos, owning your story, and growing through it.

That’s why I launched my podcast, Limitless & Unfiltered, which I co-host with my amazing friend. We wanted to create a space where women—entrepreneurs, moms, and everyone in between—could come to feel inspired, empowered, and reminded that they are not just one thing. They are limitless. Our conversations are raw, real, and filled with humor, because let’s be honest—life is messy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of it.

What makes me unique is my ability to connect with people in an unfiltered way. I don’t sugarcoat things. I share the highs, the lows, and the hilarious moments in between. My brand is built on storytelling, relatability, and reminding people that they are capable of more than they think.

And now, as I set my sights on moving to Houston, I’m excited to expand my reach even further. My family and friends have lived in the Houston area their whole lives, and I already have so many connections in the community. My goal is to continue creating content that inspires, uplifts, and makes people laugh while building real-life relationships in the Houston area. I’m all about community, and I can’t wait to be a part of the thriving, ambitious, and diverse culture that Houston embodies.

Also, let’s talk about my obsessions—hot weather, sunshine, and rodeos! Give me warm temperatures and some good old-fashioned Southern fun, and I am thriving. Houston just makes sense for me, and I can’t wait to soak up every bit of what it has to offer.

Houston, I’m coming for you!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything but smooth. But honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every challenge, every setback, and every hard lesson has shaped me into the woman I am today. The journey has been full of learning experiences—some of them painful, but all of them necessary.

One of the hardest lessons? Not everyone will understand your ambition. When I decided to step into entrepreneurship, I lost friendships—people who didn’t understand my drive to be and do more. It’s tough when the people you thought would support you don’t, but I learned that not everyone is meant to come with you on your journey. And that’s okay. Growth requires shedding the things (and people) that no longer align with your purpose.

Then there’s the online space—where I’ve built a community, but also where I’ve faced hate comments just for being myself. Creating content means putting yourself out there, and not everyone is kind. Some people love to tear others down just because they have a different opinion. I had to develop thick skin and learn to separate who I am from what strangers on the internet think of me. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but once you realize that someone else’s negativity is a reflection of them, not you, you gain a level of peace that’s priceless.

And let’s talk about health battles. At just 21, I had a life-threatening blood clot. It was a terrifying experience that completely shifted my perspective. It made me realize how precious life is and how important it is to take care of your body, listen to the warning signs, and prioritize wellness—physically, mentally, and emotionally. That experience changed the way I approach life and business. I don’t wait for the “perfect time” to chase my dreams anymore, because tomorrow is *never* promised.

And then… motherhood. If there’s one thing that will shake up your entire identity, it’s becoming a mom. The physical, emotional, and mental changes are no joke. Suddenly, the person you were before kids feels like a distant memory, and you have to redefine who you are—while raising tiny humans who depend on you for everything. It’s beautiful and fulfilling, but it’s also exhausting and overwhelming. Balancing motherhood, marriage, and multiple businesses is a daily challenge, but it’s also my greatest motivation. I want my kids to see what’s possible when you chase your dreams unapologetically.

So no, the road hasn’t been smooth. But I’ve learned that the hard roads are the ones that build resilience, strength, and purpose. And I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been a dental hygienist for 15 years and have worked independently for 12. But my job isn’t just about cleaning teeth—it’s about changing the way people feel about the dental experience. So many people carry fear and anxiety when it comes to dental care, and my passion lies in helping them overcome that fear and reclaim their confidence in the chair. I do this by creating a calm, soothing environment—from the gentle approach I take with my patients to the subtle aromas of essential oils in my office. I include my clients in every step of their care, ensuring they feel heard, valued, and in control of their health. I lead with empathy because I know that how you feel in the chair is just as important as the work being done.

Beyond dental care, I run a global health and wellness business that empowers women to build a business they’re proud of while also working on themselves. Too often, women are told they have to choose between success and personal well-being, but I refuse to accept that. I help women dive into personal growth, mindset shifts, and breaking free from diet culture, which for years has dictated how we should look and should feel. We focus not just on the quality of products we use, but also the quality of the content we consume and the quality of the people we surround ourselves with. Because true wellness is holistic—it’s about feeling good in every sense of the word.

Then there’s content creation, which has been such a fun and fulfilling space for me. I connect with moms and people in general through humor and relatability. Life is chaotic, and I love bringing a sense of joy and realness to my audience. This space has allowed me to become a voice for many brands, including HelloFresh, Lovevery, EcoKind, and many more. But no matter what I create, my core message stays the same—you don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be real.

And of course, my podcast, *Limitless & Unfiltered,* is another extension of that message. My co-host and I wanted to create a safe space where people—especially multi-passionate women, moms, and business owners—could come and feel seen. We aren’t defined by just one title, and we embrace all of our superpowers. This podcast is all about the raw, unfiltered conversations that remind women they’re not alone in the chaos. It’s a place where they can get real-life tips on how to step into the next best version of themselves and start living in their full potential.

And that’s what truly sets me apart in everything I do. Whether it’s in the dental chair, in business mentorship, in content creation, or on my podcast, I lead with authenticity. I believe that people don’t just connect with what you do—they connect with who you are. It’s not about aesthetics, though don’t get me wrong, I love a good aesthetic moment. It’s about the emotional connection you create with the person taking the time to engage with you. When you show up as your most real, unfiltered self, the right people will follow.

And that’s what I’m most proud of.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
