Meet Maria Monterrosa of HOUSTON

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Monterrosa

Hi Maria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Absolutely! My journey to real estate wasn’t a straight path, but every step along the way shaped the agent I am today. I’ve called Houston home for 28 years, and before diving into real estate, I built a career in banking and later worked in the oil field. Those industries taught me invaluable skills—financial expertise, problem-solving, and, most importantly, how to connect with people from all walks of life.

Six years ago, I took a leap of faith into real estate, driven by a passion for helping families find a place to call home. I quickly realized that this career was about so much more than just buying and selling houses—it was about building relationships, understanding people’s dreams, and guiding them through one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

My approach is deeply personal. I don’t see my clients as just transactions; I see them as lifelong connections. I’ve been fortunate to grow my business through referrals and repeat clients, which is the biggest compliment I could ask for.

Outside of real estate, my greatest joy is my family. I’ve built a beautiful life with my partner of 18 years, Erick Medrano, and our three amazing kids, Zoe, Sarah, and Jr. I also have my fur baby, Ziggy! When I’m not working, I love dancing, watching movies, and traveling to destinations that inspire me.

Every day, I wake up grateful for this journey. My goal is to continue growing, learning, and making a difference—one home, one family, and one dream at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! Like any worthwhile journey, my path to where I am today has been filled with challenges, lessons, and moments of self-doubt. Transitioning into real estate wasn’t easy—I left behind the stability of the corporate workforce to start from scratch in an industry where success depends entirely on your hustle, resilience, and ability to build trust.

In the beginning, the biggest struggle was establishing myself in a highly competitive market. Houston is filled with incredible real estate professionals, and I had to prove myself, not just to clients but to myself as well. There were times when deals fell through, clients changed their minds, or I went weeks without a closing. But I refused to let those setbacks define me.

Another challenge was balancing my career with my personal life. As a mother and partner, I’ve had to learn how to juggle the demands of real estate—late-night calls, weekend showings, and unexpected hurdles—while still being present for my family. It took time, but I found a rhythm that allows me to give my best to both my clients and my loved ones.

Through it all, I’ve learned that perseverance and a genuine heart for people will take you further than anything else. Every challenge has made me stronger, more resourceful, and even more passionate about what I do. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing because each obstacle has led me to where I am today—doing what I love and helping people achieve their dreams of homeownership.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a bilingual real estate professional in Houston, and I specialize in helping first-time homebuyers and move-up buyers navigate the home-buying and selling process with confidence. My background in banking gives me a deep understanding of financing, and I use that knowledge to educate my clients, ensuring they make smart financial decisions when purchasing a home.

What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built along the way. Many of my clients start off as strangers but end up as friends. I don’t just sell homes—I guide people through one of the biggest milestones of their lives, making the process as stress-free and rewarding as possible. Seeing a family get their keys to their first home, knowing I played a role in that journey, is the most fulfilling part of what I do.

What sets me apart is my personalized approach and my commitment to going the extra mile. I take the time to truly understand my clients’ goals, fears, and dreams. I also leverage social media and digital marketing to showcase homes in creative ways, making sure my sellers get maximum exposure and my buyers stay ahead in this competitive market.

I believe real estate is more than just transactions—it’s about trust, education, and lifelong relationships. That’s why I pour my heart into every deal, ensuring my clients feel supported, informed, and excited about their future. Whether it’s guiding a first-time buyer, helping a family upgrade, or assisting homeowners in maximizing their home’s value, I’m dedicated to delivering exceptional service that goes beyond the sale.

What’s next?
I’m always looking for ways to grow, both personally and professionally. In the future, I plan to expand my real estate business by growing my team. I want to bring on like-minded professionals who share my passion for providing exceptional service and helping clients achieve their homeownership dreams. Real estate is a relationship-driven business, and having a strong, dedicated team will allow me to serve even more families while maintaining the high level of care and attention my clients expect.
