Meet Maria Moore of Ria Lash Studio in Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Moore.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my career as a Lash Artist about four years ago. It started as just something fun I liked to do for my friends. Then one day a close friend of mine said, “Hey, you should really start making a business out of this.” So I did my research and found that I needed to go to school for 9-12 months to obtain a license. At the time, I was between bartending and working a full-time job and had no idea how I was going to make it work. But surely, I made it possible. I had to. For ten months, I went to work from 8am to 4pm, then jetted to school from 4:30pm to 10:30pm Monday- Thursday with the occasional Friday. I am so happy I went through it because it taught me that through discipline and hard work you can achieve anything.

After obtaining my license, I built my clientele for a year and a half and was able to get a suite to service my clients. Once I realized I had more clients than I could handle, it was time for me to take the next big leap… Quitting my full-time job.

Since doing so, I have been able to add on Micro-blading as a service and move into a bigger suite. Its been a hell of a ride, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am where I’m meant to be and I’m blessed beyond measure.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting your own business is definitely a learn on the go type of flow. Some days are better than others but you take the good with the bad. No one tells you how to set aside money for taxes, how to gather market research on your competitors or schedule and handle difficult client questions. I’ve learned a lot from my mistakes and I understand its all just apart of the process to grow.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ria Lash Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
People always ask me, “Why Ria? How come you didn’t just use your full name?” Well when my niece was younger she uses to call me Tia Ria because she couldn’t say Tia-Ma-Ri-A, I always thought it was so cute. So, Ria just stuck. I specialize in eyelash extensions. Its what I do best! I also offer micro-blading for brow as well.

I am proud to say that in the last year, I have been able to increase my clientele by 48%. By letting go of my full-time job last year, I was able to focus more on my client’s needs and marketing.

I pride myself in building trust and establishing strong relationships with my clients. I feel like at the end of the day, yes my clients come to get their lashes done, but I also like to think that they come to see me because they trust me and I can relate to them on many levels.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Houston is a melting pot of culture! There are so many things to do and there’s inspiration on every corner. The food options here are endless. The only downside to Houston is the traffic, you never know when traffic hour really is.
