Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Snider.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love for photography started when I was very young. I remember the day that I saw a picture my dad took for my sister’s first communion and I loved it. I think from then on I had a huge love for photography. My grandfather was also a great inspiration for me. He always had a camera with him and had huge albums of photos around the house. When I would go visit I would play with his camera and I had no clue what all the rings on the lenses meant.
As a teenager, I got my first camera. It was a point and shoot Pentax with a film. I kept that well into my 20’s. When my first son was born my husband bought me my first “big” camera. A Minolta 35mm camera that still sits on my desk where I can see it every day. Slowly but surely I started to get curious about how the camera worked and I started wanting to know how to get images to look a certain way. I started reading and experimenting. Learning.
After a while, I started taking pictures of friends and family. The more I used it the more I learned. Then I got my first digital and jumped into being “official”. It has been a slow and steady progression. And I have loved every minute of it. I have clients/friends that have been with me since the beginning and I love watching the kids grow right in front of my lens. It is such a privilege to get to see these families change.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would not say that it has been a smooth road or a bumpy road. It has been the road that I meant to have. It has taken longer than it takes most. It has been slow and steady. Having little kids made it that way. I have enjoyed the road that it has taken me in. I enjoyed the time spent with my family. Overall it has been a good road.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Maria Snider Photography is geared to families, babies, kids, and seniors. I am an on-location photographer and use natural light. I would describe my style as a combination of posed and lifestyle photography (there is room for a little bit of everything in my galleries). My goal at the end of the day is to deliver images that are timeless and will be cherished for a lifetime. I don’t really use props. My focus is the people in my images. My edits are clean and simple so they won’t go “out of style”.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Woodlands/Houston is a great city to start your business in. We are always growing and there is room for other photographers.
