Meet Mariel and Jason Lilly of Hogshead Delight

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariel and Jason Lilly.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mariel and Jason. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My husband and I are social butterflies! We’re so outgoing that we make friends everywhere we go & love hanging out with family & friends! With that being said, we were hanging out with friends in their swimming pool and throwing out business ideas while enjoying our favorite adult drinks. It came to us how great would it be to have a mobile catering business. So many times we’ve had parties and it’s been a hassle and stressful at times to go out to the store, pick up, set up and host. People want “convenience” and we ourselves do too. Fast forward two years, a Pinterest board loaded with business ideas. I decided to speak to my husband and he saw a lot of potential. We decided to take the plunge after doing a bit of research. We researched countless hours on what’s trending & asked people what they wanted. We wanted to offer an easy convenient way to bring the drinks to the host having a party. But not just any mobile catering service, a vintage 1950’s pick up truck decked out with a tap system.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m gonna be honest. No such thing as a smooth road, otherwise everything would come easy to everyone. There’s always struggles in anything you do, and we’ve had a lil bit of a bumpy road. But, I remember being told many times when growing up, be patient, don’t rush it unless you’re running the 100-yard dash relay. During this process, being patient is key. Not only did we decide to do a startup business, but also building a house that has also brought challenges on its own and tending to my family which is a full-time job of its own as well. The process of starting a business has taught us so much, my husband not only works full time, but we’ve had to find time and energy to switch gears and talk about more work. We have many amazing friends that have supported us through this journey and looking forward to our success. We want to grow this and hope that everyone enjoys what we bring to their events. We enjoy seeing people smile and enjoying themselves and hope that we can fulfill their expectations.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hogshead Delight – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our business got its name from way back in the day, let’s go back in history a bit shall we…

According to the Oxford dictionary, a Hogshead is one large cask that measures of capacity for beer, equal to 54 imperial gallons or 64 US gallons (245.5 litres).

Our pickup truck has the equivalent capacity of one Hogshead (64 gallons).

What sets us apart from others is customer service and having a quality pour. Ain’t nobody got time for foamy beer!

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
There has been so many proud moments in our startup business. From the purchase of the truck, receiving the approval from TABC thus becoming fully licensed (this is a BIG DEAL) to learning the ins and outs of the industry and the science behind a quality pour thus still keeping in mind there is a lot to learn along the way. But most of all seeing the excitement in people’s faces, watching it all come together and being hired for your first event. We’re proud of ourselves for simply taking the plunge. It’s scary to start a business whether it’s big or small. You want it to be successful and accepted by many! Everyone loves our business, we have been approached by many and ready to hire us! Just recently was our first event and we received so many positive compliments. The best compliment came from an experienced bartender, she has not seen a more perfect pour in a long time, there is a science behind it, and we nailed it!
