Thanks for sharing your story with us Mark. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In October of 2014, my marketing guy came to me and said, “We need to start a podcast”. To which I quickly replied “that’s a stupid idea”.
Fast forward to now and we have the top 3 podcasts in the Oil and Gas industry, with 10 more in the works. And it’s our fastest growing revenue stream. So obviously I was wrong. 😉
The Oil and Gas industry is changing, and that includes a new younger workforce. This new workforce thinks and acts differently, including how they learn and buy. Conventional marketing has a very hard time reaching these men and woman, but they absolutely love podcasts. In fact, on average they listen to 6 different podcasts (see stats here: https://oilandgasglobalnetwork.com/sponsorship/)
So, we just happened to be one of the first to market, and now have over 370,000 listeners in over 178 different countries that work in the industry. Something I am still in awe about!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have our struggles. Changes in hosts, signing up sponsors that were not a good fit, making bad hiring decisions and not building scalable business processes.
But we have overcome and most importantly have learned from our mistakes. So now it’s all straight up!
