Marquita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I see myself as a gifted creative with a passion for the Arts. Music and Art inspired me to be my most authentic self. I use creativity as an outlet to express myself and the world around me. My alias Lyric was created from a personal need to have a voice and to be heard. Through this alias, I was able to overcome FEAR and find my true voice, passion, and purpose. With this newfound confidence Love, Lyric Customs was created. Through utilizing my gifts of creativity, I wish to be a beacon of light and love in my community and around the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been as smooth as expected. With any business startup, there are obstacles along the way but with the help of YouTube and other resources such as social media, we have been able to conquer the ones in our way. I would say one of the struggles along the way would be breaking into the sneaker customization industry as a black female artist.

What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was very curious and very vocal. I always asked questions and would break things apart to see how they worked as well as read and look things up to learn how to do them. I grew up painting and drawing with my sisters and my father. My father is an amazing artist and I honestly feel as though I got my talent for painting and drawing from him. He groomed me as an artist. We were always painting and drawing together. I used art as a way to express my feelings and put them onto a canvas, whether it be denim, walls, canvases, or paper. As I got older, expressing myself through art gradually ceased. From my environment, I felt the need to filter my art and suppress my emotions and feelings and so I did that. I no longer drew or painted and as a result, I lost my voice. My voice was later on founded through art once more and Love, Lyric Customs was created.
