Meet Maryann and Shannon Corbin of Inner Lux

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryann and Shannon Corbin.

Maryann and Shannon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We got started at a young age playing music. Our mother is a music major and music teacher. When I (Maryann) was around seven years old, my mom put me in guitar lessons because I would always pick up her acoustic at home and attempt to make up songs.

Growing up, my twin and I were very close. After school, when we got home from class we would always go right to our room and write songs on an acoustic. Eventually, we formed our first band in 8th grade, playing our first show by freshman year of high school. Throughout high school, we performed across Houston. After high school, we went our separate way musically, where I pursued playing in metal bands until my early 20’s. After struggling to keep traction playing with metal bands, I eventually decided I was done making music. Fast forward another year later, my twin and I were bored at home and started writing acoustic songs again, we heard about a producer doing an awesome deal on prices for tracking a song. We thought it may be fun to go make a song in a nice studio. That journey ended up starting the idea of Inner Lux.

Fast forward to now, we have been working on this project for around three years now. Writing, recording, planning, learning everything we can to make sure we give you the highest quality of art we could possibly provide. We released a single with a music video in 2018 called “Prosaic” we also have a new single with a new music video dropping 10/19/19 called “Down” shortly after the release of Down we are playing our live debut in Houston on October 26th at the For Artist, By Artist festival at Bohemeos. We have more releases and shows planned. We are very excited to share what Inner Lux is all about from here forward.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There’s been many struggles along the way but what I can highlight about that is our want for this project to happen has made us overcome just about every obstacle we have faced. No matter what challenges we have ahead of us, I know that our passion for making music will pull us through every time.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Inner Lux is a dark pop duo formed by my twin Shannon and I (Maryann). Maryann plays bass and is the lead vocalist alongside Shannon. What we are most proud of as a band is our music. We have spent years working on a bunch of songs. We wanted them to be perfect before we shared them all with you. It’s to date our best work as musicians and we are so excited to share it all with the world. I think what sets us apart from others is that we are twins! We have spent our entire life together playing music, we have a lifetime of experience singing alongside each other and we share the same vision. We know no matter what, we always have each other and that’s the glue that will keep inner Lux around for a long time.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’d say a big moment of luck that played a big part in making Inner Lux what it is today is how we met our producer. We went to a show a few years ago, we were showing someone one of our songs when a gentleman nearby overheard. He approached us because he dug the song and long story short he became our producer. Our producer Vaughn Isaac has been with us for about three years allowing us to work with him in his studio, Strive Productions. He also plays guitar live for us. Without Vaughn, Inner Lux would not be where we are today. Showing one stranger at a show, our song turned into finding the best producer we have ever worked with.
