Meet Matt Tipton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Tipton.

Hi Matt , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a musician, my story began at a young age with a fascination and love for music. More importantly, it was the creation of music that caught my attention. I was intrigued with how music was created from start to finish. I wanted to learn how a studio engineer and producer could capture a sound that would resinate with peoples’ interest and emotions.

When I was 12, I got my first guitar and wanted to learn all I could about playing it and how I could write my own music. I stared learning chord progressions and how to write melodies and lyrics to form a song. My obsession grew as I got older and had the opportunity to record my own songs in a studio at a friends house. I recorded two albums there when I was 17. Although it wasn’t my best work, by any means, it was a start to a future that I couldn’t shake even 20 years later.

When I graduated high school, I studied audio engineering at Media Tech Institute at their campus near downtown Houston. I excelled so much there that I recorded my own album during the course of a year and half and even started working as a first year engineer picking up odd jobs that the other engineers didn’t want to do. I had a key to a world class studio. It was a dream. I would later write and record more of my own music, either in my home or others, and my passion continued to grow. This passion for producing my own music led me to helping others do the same.

Since then, I’ve been able to help a number of musicians and songwriters produce their own music along with full length albums. It has been helping other artists, like me, fulfill their dream. And I was good at it. But not only that, I absolutely loved every minute of it.

To this day, I continue to record my own music but have become busier in helping others fulfill their dreams of having music that can be produced and streamed for the world to hear.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, nor a short road for that matter. I’ve spent years working on my craft only to be able to use it to help others. It took years of being able to create a believable sound with minimal resources. It has taken years for me to connect with other musicians around the world that I can trust and who can really help me find the performance I need to for critical accompaniment in a song. Whether this a drummer, sax player, pianist, cellist, etc.

I’ve learned to intuitively understand an artist’s vision in order to produce a song that sounds professionally done but done in my own home studio.

There have been choices that I’ve made that haven’t worked, but many that have and I attribute that to being consistent in creating music always. I’m always creating music, whether it’s my own or those who hire me as an engineer and producer.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was blessed to win a John Lennon Song Writing Award back in 2007 for the “Gospel” category. That was a huge affirmation for me that I was doing what I need to do in life and it’s what made me feel fulfilled.

I specialize in helping artists, who might not aspire in becoming a professional touring artist, take an idea of a song and turn it into a full blown produced reality. I love the process and the reaction I get from customers that never could have imagined that their songs would be ready for digital streaming nor sound as good as they do when finished. I’m unlike many others because, I can do everything from one small little studio in my house and sometimes without any interaction with the artists other than a couple phones calls and multiple emails.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as, Discovering what you’re most passionate about in life and finding a way to do it full time. Start out small and get to a level where you can make that a full time occupation.
