Meet Matthew Davis of The Salt Podcast in Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Davis.

Matthew, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was in college, I transferred to Tyler Junior College and during my second week there, I started a bible study with my teammate that initially started with four people and ended up growing to be more than 30 people meeting twice a week in a dorm hall for bible study. When I left Tyler and went to SMU, I started another bible study with a few teammates that ended up growing to a big team bible study every week. Over a year ago, God gave me the idea to start a podcast, but I never went forward with it until one day two of my best friends brought it up to me and I knew it was time to do it. The three of us got together and planned out what we would do and shortly after “The Salt Podcast” was birthed.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Personally, I’ve faced a lot of bumps in the road since high school. Whether it be sports injuries, things in school, or just personal things, adversity has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve had multiple serious injuries, I had five coaches in five years in college and starting the podcast took a lot of courage.

Please tell us about The Salt Podcast – what should we know?
The Salt Podcast is a podcast who’s mission is “Implementing Christ into the culture through conversation.” Our goal is to bridge the gap between the Church and the culture, especially millennials. We hope that through our platform, we will spread the love of Christ and be able to inject Christ into the culture.

Our podcast is known for our thought-provoking conversation and transparency as three young Christian men walking through life learning like everyone else. We are proud of the content and our vulnerability through our posts. We don’t only talk about Christ and the Church, but about life and the everyday issues of it.

The thing that sets The Salt Podcast apart from everyone else is the combination of Christ and the culture. We are authentic in our conversation and we also have a number of great guests on our shows.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Personally, it would be my faith and resiliency. They go hand in hand and I would be nowhere if it had not been for both of them. My faith in God is what has carried me my entire life and through every valley and hard place, it was God that got me through.

As a podcast, I would say it is our obedience to the vision God gave us. We consistently pray and seek what it is that God wants to do with and through this podcast. From the beginning of the podcast, we said that we would do whatever He asked and I believe at the end of the day that will be why our podcast will be successful and impactful.
