Hi Maurice, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my professional artistry in 1996 when I was plucked out of Youngstown, Ohio alongside an R&B singing group called Whoz Who. Our singing group was one of the hottest R&B acts signed to Dr. Dre’s record label, Aftermath Entertainment. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
My musical arsenal consists of R&B, Hip-hop, Trap, Alternative Rock, Pop and Gospel. I’ve worked with Commissioner Gordon Williams, John Oates, Mariah Carey, Roscoe, Becky G, Broadway theatrical acts such as Disney’s Lion King Brandon Kane (Young Simba), actress Roslyn Cohn and many more. My style and creativity are widely universal.
After dedicating many years to the music game, I finally came to a point at this time and age that I will share the musical and creative experience with aspiring artists, singer, songwriters and producers alike. I currently run Trackbox Studios here in Houston, TX offering recording, production, vocal coaching and artist development. I enjoy working with the youth as they are the future; Trackbox provides a brand-new experience and the space as a positive creative outlet for many from youth to the elderly who simply wants to sing a tune on their anniversary. Despite the dark & unfortunate times we are facing in the music industry, I go above and beyond to encourage aspiring creatives that there is still goodness, positivity and hope for the beautiful thing that God intended for us to enjoy — Music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A part of the struggle was having to juggle between a 9-5 and being able to focus on the music full-time with a passion and without breaking focus. I am blessed with a situation where I can pursue this full-time and give 100% dedication to successfully run Trackbox Studios.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets Trackbox apart from others is our friendly and family-oriented approach which is very important when it comes to breaking the ice and bringing out the full potential of the artist. I am proud to say that a lot of the creatives that I work with look up to me for mentorship as well.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe that the music industry will make a dramatic halt due to AI seeming unethical and get back to the roots of good old-fashioned song writing and producing from scratch. This is where the most meaningful and passionate ideas come from. One of my all-time favorite artist, Prince would’ve agreed with me on this topic. In today’s climate, as the music is under heavy fire – we here at Trackbox are strong advocates for closest friends, family members or team to be involved in your project.
