Today we’d like to introduce you to McKenzie Allen.
Hi McKenzie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a volunteer firefighter for a little over a year at Klein Fire Department which lead me to 911 dispatching. I was working for Cypress Creek EMS for over 3 years doing 12hr night shifts. I then started working at a brand new dispatch center, WestCom, as a dispatch supervisor in the summer of 2021. This new center works on 24hr shifts (yes we get to sleep for 5hrs during the shift). With the new schedule, I ended up only working 1-2 days a week. I had so much free time I didn’t know what to do with myself! That’s when I decided to get into real estate.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was a very odd transition coming off duty as a 911 dispatcher into a more “professional business-like” environment. Marketing and putting myself out there to generate leads has definitely been my biggest obstacle. Being introverted is not helpful when it comes to meeting new people and trying to network.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Right after I got my real estate license I signed up with Epique Realty as my sponsoring broker (It’s pronounced “epic” I know the spelling is eccentric). Soon after I started generating leads I closed my first deal and was able to help a family move from California to Texas. They seemed very grateful and excited. It was a really nice feeling to be able to help them. I help lots of people in dispatch every shift, it was nice to know that my second job could be just as helpful to others.
