Meet Meagan Miller of Soul Sisters Women’s Ministry in Jersey Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Miller.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Meagan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am 25 years old and recently moved to Houston from New Orleans in January 2018. I am a current student at TSU and work for a hotel in the Galleria area. I’m an only child and moved away all by myself and really stepped out on faith. But I would do it all again if I could to get where I am now. I attend The Lighthouse church in Humble and that church has saved me from falling astray and it has really helped keep me together. I want to inspire others and be a role model for people who are new to the faith and show them that God is not about religion but more so about relationship. Being able to show women that there is freedom and joy in Christ that I’ve never experienced before I just want others to feel the unexplained feeling that relationship with Christ gives. I have so many goals and aspirations in this life failure is not an option. I moved to Houston for opportunity that New Orleans couldn’t give me and I’m excited to see where this journey will take me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been a difficult journey and it hasn’t gotten any easier. Being in college, working and trying to get a ministry off the ground all while in the middle of a pandemic, is a bit overwhelming and stressful to say the least. To avoid the notion of not reaching my full potential, I try to keep accountability partners in place so that I don’t fall victim to laziness and procrastination. I try to consistently operate in excellence and not focus on judgment and failure. Being transformed by the renewing of my mind is a daily practice for me. I find that it helps me to prove to myself that I can overcome anything when I put my mind to it.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
When I was about 19 years old, I fully committed myself to Christ and decided to live my life as such. I am 25 now, moved away from my home town of New Orleans, LA and started classes at Texas Southern University with a major in sports management and a minor in Radio, TV, and Film. Hopefully when I graduate ill be a sports anchor on ESPN network or NFL network. This is my second time in school the first time I wasn’t ready and it showed. I got kicked out with a 0.2 GPA. Yes a 0.2. Now in my third year at TSU, I am on the honor roll and in 4 honor societies with a 3.8 GPA. My story is I was so lost trying to fit in with this world and do what everyone else did and it wasn’t working for me I completely lost sight of who I was and what I was here to do. The purpose of me starting this ministry was to be sure women in high school, college and beyond knew that its OK to be themselves to fully express their unique individuality in however they see fit.

We are not all meant to do the same thing and follow the same crowd many of us are called to be Leaders and helping women to understand and acknowledge the Queen in them is very important to me. Many of us go through life not dealing with our past pains and the heartaches we have endured over time. It is critical for us to heal, break free and be delivered from everything that tries to hold us back. Breaking generational curses, renewing minds and mending broken places is a main focus of what I do with Soul Sisters. I desire to impact lives on a global scale and let women know they are not alone and this walk with Christ not always easy but they have a support system and have other women dealing with similar things here to hold them accountable and be their backbone. We have zoom calls every Wednesday night because there are girls all over the U.S and some in Canada and Africa who have joined this group. This ministry is only two weeks old and has grown from 8 to 40 in those two weeks. I’m beyond excited to see where this will take me in the coming years but I’m ready for the journey.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
With Soul Sisters, I hope to have conferences all around the world. This is something I am passionate about and was born to do. I want to start small groups in cities all over the world. Where instead on Wednesday night zoom calls, they can have Girls night every week and sometimes it will be bible study, sometimes movie night, maybe dinner and just talk about life and be an escape for each other from the stress of everyday life.

I also plan to open a gym. I have always had a love for fitness.  I trained people for a few years back home in New Orleans. I worked with former NFL athletes Marlon Favorite and Skylar Green of Conquer Sports Pros. They train athletes on all levels from high school to PRO. I’ve always loved strength and conditioning training so when my mentor Robin connected me with Marlon to help train these kids, I was excited. I trained with them until I moved away and began the next level of their athletic careers. I look forward to opening a cross fit style fitness center for athletes. I have always desired to train athletes since 2013. That desire hasn’t gone away. So my hope is to open a gym and still be able to train the people who join.
