Thanks for sharing your story with us Meaka. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a nitch for style & creating things for as early on as I could remember.
I started my style blog The Corporate Cutie only one year ago. The blog came about from working in Corporate America in Human Resources. I started noticing that color in the office is often frowned upon. Everyone has their idea of what’s professional & it always seemed to fit a certain mold.
The Corporate Cutie style blog is a blog the showcases corporate wear with an out of office twist. It’s for the woman who wants to stand out & express themselves.
The Corporate Cutie Graphics is the graphic design company that I started three years ago. I’m a God taught artist. I knew absolutely nothing about graphic design three years ago. This came about when I wanted to make a snapchat filter for my birthday & thought “oh just get on YouTube & figure it out” & here I am three years later creating branding for some of the top companies in Houston.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a serial Entrepreneur is never easy especially if you work full time as well.
I work full time almost 9-10 hours a day in Corporate America then turn around & work another 10 plus hours for myself.
I’m tired, I get frustrated, I have to deal with customers demanding so many things when it comes to graphics for their business while still trying to complete my daily task at work, but I always have to pull strength from within. Nothing worth having is very easy. I have my daily talk with God & he directs me right where I need to go. He gave me this gift so I will continue to let him use me in any capacity.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
What sets me apart from others is I’m a renaissance woman.
This is my drive, my gift, my purpose. My positive spirit is what sets me apart. I work, run my business & tutor every day & do things with a smile & with style.
I do it all. I’m a Human Resources Specialist, Graphic Designer & Style Blogger, I also tutor 7th grade Math.
Not too many business owners or entrepreneurs can say they are serial entrepreneurs in totally different industries.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would always have to be anything with my mom involved.
I am so blessed to have her in my life. She was a single mom raising three kids.
Her drive, her hustle, her resilience is what gave me the fuel to my fire.
