Meet Megan Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Martinez.

Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I went to school at The Art Institute of Jacksonville, Florida and got my BFA in Graphic Design. After graduating, I worked at a couple of agencies and quickly realized it wasn’t for me. I started designing wedding invites and moved to Austin, Texas where I was inspired to illustrate custom dog portraits. From there I started designing art prints, greeting cards, enamel pins, bandanas and most recently reusable bags.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I struggled with your typical creative cliche… learning to say “no” to projects I wasn’t excited about. Ultimately, it left me feeling burnt out and unbalanced. Eventually, setting this boundary was the only way to protect my valuable time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create playful designs inspired by everyday feelings that have something relatable for most. People know me best for being colorful, vibrant and never afraid to pair two patterns together. I’m most proud of staying true to myself and being vulnerable by sharing my grief journey openly with the world to see raw emotion. I’ve built a beautiful community through this new lens on Instagram that I cherish the most.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I inherited the sweetest Chihuahua named Rocket. He’s a grumpy 9-year-old with lots of spunk and attitude and you’ll occasionally see his tongue hanging out of his mouth on my Instagram if you’re lucky.
