Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Sheppard.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always had a passion for Hair, Beauty, and Fashion. I knew that whatever career path I chose, it would definitely involve these 3 things. Upon graduating from Paul Mitchell The School Houston back in 2009, I received my cosmetology license and started my 7 1/2 year career at Visible Changes Salon in the Galleria mall here in Houston, TX. After extensive training and classes, producing an overwhelming amount of sales, 4 promotions, and building an outstanding clientele, I knew it was time to take my career to the next level. That meant creating my own brand, opening my own Salon Studio, and becoming my own Boss! Now, 2 1/2 years into being an entrepreneur, I have learned so much and still learning daily the ends and outs of what it takes to have a successful business. I am reminded every day of exactly why I chose to follow my passion and I am truly embracing my journey!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have to say, when I first started my business, I had many friends in my same industry that had already gone out on their own. They are the ones that helped me get started. I was blessed because they helped make, what was a scary process, a lot smoother for me. So, the startup process wasn’t as stressful, which I am so thankful for. Now, with this being a competitive industry, I knew once I opened and got started, I was on my own. So, I did lots of research and took many classes to ensure I was making the right moves for my company. To this day, I am constantly finding different ways to stand out in a crowded industry. Figuring out what makes me and my salon experience different than any other. Finding my way and doing so in my own way. There are times when I get overwhelmed or start to feel discouraged, but I remember that I was made for this and nothing great comes easy all of the time, so I have to keep pushing!
Please tell us about The M Effect Hair Studio.
I am a Hairstylist that specializes in all textures. One of my favorite skills is being a Cutting Specialist. It’s funny because, at times, I feel like I can do it with my eyes closed. 8 years of studying your craft make you have that type of confidence. I love a beautiful Blow-Out, but I also love an edgy cut and color. What I am most proud of as a company is a relationship I have with my clients. I style whole families and I sometimes feel like I am apart of their family. I’m not only a hairdresser to my clients, but someone they can feel comfortable around, confide in, and let their hair down with, literally, and I get joy making them feel and look amazing when they walk out of my salon. We not only discuss hair tips and solutions, but we also talk about Fashion and Beauty tips, which I also have a huge passion for. When my clients tell me how much they love and appreciate me, it lets me know that I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing and it gives me such an amazing feeling!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I don’t think I would do anything differently. I feel like I got started exactly when I was supposed to. That leap of faith was much needed at that time in my career, and I’m learning and growing as I go!
