Today we’d like to introduce you to Megha Patil.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Megha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since childhood, dining out had been a big part of outing with my family. Even though my mother is an exceptional cook, we used to explore different cuisines outside home. I have lived in three different countries before moving to the USA. I was born in India. Within India as well, we lived in different cities owing to my dad’s job. I really enjoyed diverse regional cuisines from different states. Then, we moved to Dubai when I was still a teenager. And, oh boy, this city never sleeps. So many options; so many cuisines. Brunches and late night dinners were a common theme and slowly became a part of our lifestyle. Here, you will find delicious middle-eastern delicacies available easily on the streets as well as in the fancy restaurants sometimes even next to each other. After a few years, I moved to Toronto for my college studies. This city is also known for its diverse food from all around the world. As a college student, I found myself frequenting some of my favorite dessert and coffee places time and again. After enjoying the beautiful snowfalls and several winter storms, I moved to hot and sunny Houston. Quite a contrast eh! And it’s here, I fell in love with food all over again.
One day, I was casually browsing through my phone and realized I had numerous pictures of only foods from my culinary excursions. And, to my surprise, every picture, felt like, had a story to tell. The conversations that took place, the time and place, and just the overall memories. It was truly like going down the memory lane. And mind you, some of these pictures are since before the time of Instagram. So then, I decided instead of deleting these beautiful pictures of my meals, I must share it with the rest. And that’s how they ended up on my Instagram page. You know, food is like poetry simply connecting people.
In Houston, there are a plethora of restaurants. Every time I was making plans to dine out, I wanted to eat at a new place. I realized food excites me and I liked taking pictures of what I ate. Eventually, I started sharing these pictures on Instagram.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say it has been a smooth ride in a sense. If I was out with my husband, we would quickly choose a restaurant and off we went for the food. Other times, depending on who I was making plans to hang out with, we would select a restaurant with consensus. Well, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that some days it would take a little longer to pick a place of suitable taste for the moment. Once all was finalized and the plate arrived at the table, it’s a test of patience for the ones going out with me. As such, I try to capture the “perfect” shot as quickly as possible before devouring the meal. But, the real struggle is when I get excited looking at the menu and some days, I want to have everything from drinks to desserts. But, I got to be a little mindful of my situation as there is only so much I can truly savor in one sitting. I have a major sweet tooth so burning those calories becomes essential. At least, I try to. 🙂
Please tell us about your work as a blogger.
I would say currently “meghabite” is a quick stop diverse food gallery. If you are looking for food and places, “meghabite” provides several options. They may not be all popular ones but may be some hidden gems worth trying. I am excited to be able to pursue my hobby through dining out and blogging about it on Instagram. I really enjoy the sights and sounds of restaurants and being able to share my experience with others. I am very happy that through blogging, I have been able to connect with more people. If through this platform, I can spread the word about cuisines, foods, and restaurants with many people and get them to try these places then why not. After all, word of mouth promotion along with pictures is an added bonus to bring in more diners. Whenever anyone says that they visited a restaurant from my Instagram page, it is very rewarding.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have captured my meals at every restaurant that I had been to. There are several restaurants from my early years, many moons ago, which I did not even capture. I have also traveled to Australia, Europe, and South-East Asia and the scrumptious food I have had in all these regions is just a memory until next time. Going forward, when I am on a vacation, I will make sure to capture my meals so I won’t have to count days and months until I visit again. Also, it would be nice to be a little more considerate of my friends and family while dining out and to not test their patience. So far, they have all been super kind. Lucky me! I am absolutely looking forward to more exploration, travel, and sharing my meals from all over with everyone. Bon Appetit!
