Meet Meghan Temple

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Temple.

Meghan, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Due to COVID-19, I was laid off. I previously worked as a server and anyone who has been in the service industry knows how addicting fast money can be. Being laid off, my mental and physical health began to decline, so I initially created myself a pair of waistbeads to help track/gauge progress as I began to develop a workout regimen again. I began posting myself in my beads and asking if anyone I knew would be interested and the rest is history. I did not think I would get the support I have and I am forever grateful.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has not been difficult and for that, I’m very thankful. Luckily I have people in my corner who believe in me and want to see me win, but being an entrepreneur is never an easy road. It can be costly and it is also time-consuming. If you aren’t willing to work hard or invest in yourself, I definitely wouldn’t suggest starting your own business. Every day is not going to be a $1,000 day, and you may have days when you don’t sell anything. You can’t let that deter your faith. You have to go ten times harder & you MUST be your biggest fan. Your “friends” are not going to repost your work, people are not going to wear your product even if you do give it to them for free, it’s just the way the game goes. Everyone wants to be apart of those businesses that have already blown up or are in the spotlight. No one wants to help build your brand, you have to be strong and stand on your brand. Someone will see your work sis, keep posting, keep pushing, keep creating!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business specializes in and is known for making waistbeads. I am also known for being the only one in Houston who has Swarovski waistbeads sets, which have been very popular. A lot of people also overlook that I make custom anklets, bracelets, and necklaces too. What sets me apart from others is that everything I sell is handmade by me. A lot of people see a style I create and want the same set, but I create custom pieces and love a challenge. Nothing is off-limits! I love for my clients to branch out and try new things, it keeps beading fun and me on my toes. Another thing that sets me apart from other brands is that I do not charge my clients by the size of their waist. Who am I to fault you for your natural physique? I am a plus-sized woman and we have put in so many boxes already that I did not want to continue to limit my clients. All people of all shapes and sizes are welcome. Made by Meg is focused on inclusion. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck. I was an athlete from elementary through college. I was able to go to school on a full-ride basketball scholarship to Loyola University New Orleans. During the duration of my time, myself and three teammates lead our class to become the most winningest class in the school’s history! I said all that to say I am no stranger to hard work, and everything I have I worked for. Nothing comes easy, and if you want something, you have to go after it. With that being said, I do have some big plans in the coming weeks, but you’ll have to stay tuned to see what those plans may be. This week was a big marketing push for me, fingers crossed you see some of your favorites in a Made by Meg piece here soon. Thus far, I’ve been blessed to get my pieces to Shantel Jackson (Nelly’s wife) Daren (Megan Thee Stallions close friend,) just to name a few. I have so much planned for the future and will continue to grow, learn, and only get better.
