Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Levy and Fredell Belasco.
Melanie and Fredell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We are a mother/daughter team that started Apartment Insiders 10 years ago. Fredell previously owned another apartment locating company and has 40 years of experience working in the industry! Melanie previously worked in marketing for the Texans, Rockets, and Comets.
Our key to success is simple–we work hard every day to make sure our clients have all the information they need to pick the right apartment. We have found that even in a modern world, clients need (and value) dedication and a personalized approach.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every business has ups and downs, but we have had a great experience working together and watching the industry change over the years. Our biggest challenge is keeping up with technology shifts and finding new ways to attract clients.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Houston Apartment Insiders story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a free apartment locating business that focuses primarily on apartments in the Inner Loop, Galleria, and Energy Corridor. We work with over 90% of the properties in those areas.
When we opened our business 10 years ago, we knew that the key to success was remaining small enough to ensure that each client receives a great customer experience. We are proud that we have continued to be successful–even during rough patches in the market.
Anybody can go online and find a cookie-cutter list of apartments, but most people want (and need) help to differentiate between all of the available options. Simply, that’s where we come in. Our service is the perfect way for clients to get accurate information and honest advice.
Many people wonder how our service can be free to them, but the answer is simple–apartment management companies pay us a commission out of their advertising budgets. This setup ensures that using our service never raises a client’s rent.
