Today we’d like to introduce you to Melinda Prince.
Melinda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Photographs are a record of our lives and the world we live in. As I travelled around America, I found myself wanting to record the many changing landscapes and wildlife. From there it seems a natural progression to find the beauty in the every day. Texas is an amazing place to live and I love trying to help people record where they are in their lives. My love of wildlife photography has found a natural progression into recording animals in our lives. My love of dog and equestrian photography is growing alongside my interest in human portraiture.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Melinda Prince Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is mainly portraiture with two main focusses: People and animals.
As far as people, children and teens have been my main work but adults too. I have a small studio and any larger groups I like to photograph outside in natural light. Engagement shoots and couples are so much fun, and I have worked with couples on small weddings, although it is not my focus. My animal portraits are principally dogs and horses. Although I have worked with cats and even a pet rat!
I typically have up to 3 dogs in my studio, although I have had more and litters of very young puppies in there are so much fun. I just ask that larger dogs have a certain level of training, in that they can sit for at least 5 seconds! My style is simple, focusing on the animal and its character although if clients want a specific ‘look’ I will, of course, work it into the session. Equestrian photography is a large part of my business. I travel to the horse’s barns or any location they are comfortable in and can take portraits of just the horses or more lifestyle or art photographs of horses and their riders. Although we don’t have mountains or forests in our part of Texas, our amazing skies and sunsets make for a fabulous backdrop. I love the clean feel of printing on metal and clients are often surprised with the result when I encourage them away from traditional canvass art work to having their work printed on aluminum.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best: The people, sunsets over the prairie, opportunities, and the ‘can do’ attitude.
Worse: The traffic!
